What You Need to Know
What Is the iFi ZEN Air Blue 2?
The ZEN Air Blue 2 is a Bluetooth receiver with a built-in DAC (digital-to-analog converter). It receives music wirelessly from your phone, tablet, or laptop via Bluetooth and converts it into a clean analog signal that you can feed into your amplifier, AV receiver, or powered speakers through standard RCA cables.
In simple terms, it adds high-quality Bluetooth streaming to any audio system that doesn’t already have it—or upgrades the Bluetooth quality on a system that does. If you have a great stereo amplifier or a nice pair of powered speakers but no way to stream music wirelessly from your phone, the ZEN Air Blue 2 solves that in about 30 seconds.
What Makes It Special?
The headline upgrade in the ZEN Air Blue 2 is aptX Lossless support. This is a Bluetooth codec that delivers true CD-quality audio (44.1kHz, 16-bit) with zero data loss at bitrates up to 1,200 kbps. Until recently, Bluetooth always meant some level of compression. With aptX Lossless and a compatible phone (many newer Android devices support it), you’re now getting the full quality of a CD wirelessly.
The ZEN Air Blue 2 also supports LDAC (up to 990 kbps for hi-res audio up to 96kHz), LHDC/HWA, aptX Adaptive, aptX HD, aptX, AAC, and SBC. That means it works with virtually every phone and tablet on the market—iPhone (AAC), Android (typically LDAC or aptX), and everything in between.
Instead of using a single all-in-one chip like most Bluetooth receivers, iFi uses a three-stage architecture. A Qualcomm QCC3095 chipset handles the Bluetooth 5.4 radio signal. A separate ESS Sabre DAC handles the digital-to-analog conversion. And a custom analog amplification stage with iFi’s proprietary OV series op-amps outputs the final signal. By separating these jobs, each stage can be optimized independently—reducing noise and distortion at every step.
The improved antenna design provides more stable connections at the edge of its approximately 30-foot (10-meter) range. And a new 5–12V DC power compatibility means you can use the ZEN Air Blue 2 in your car or other battery-powered setups. When installed in a vehicle, it powers up and shuts down automatically with the engine.
What Are Reviewers Saying?
The ZEN Air Blue 2 launched in May 2026 and dedicated professional reviews are still emerging. We’ll update this section as recognized publications publish their evaluations.
The original ZEN Air Blue was well received by the audio press. Headfonics recommended it to anyone wanting a simple way to add Bluetooth to an existing setup, noting that performance was very close to a direct wired DAC feed. eCoustics praised the ZEN Air Blue 2’s upgrade to Bluetooth 5.4 with aptX Lossless, calling it a rare combination at the $129 price point.
Who Is This Best For?
You have a stereo amplifier, receiver, or powered speakers with RCA inputs but no Bluetooth—and you want to stream music from your phone wirelessly.
You want lossless CD-quality audio over Bluetooth (aptX Lossless) without spending hundreds on a full streamer.
You want to upgrade the built-in Bluetooth on a receiver or powered speaker with something that sounds noticeably better.
You want to add wireless streaming to your car’s auxiliary input with a device that powers on and off with the engine.
You want a clean, focused device that does one thing well—no extra features, no complexity, just excellent Bluetooth to your system.
How Does It Connect?
Setup is about as simple as it gets. Plug the ZEN Air Blue 2 into power (USB or 5–12V DC), connect its RCA outputs to any open RCA input on your amplifier or powered speakers, pair it with your phone via Bluetooth, and start playing music. That’s it.
The output is RCA stereo only. There is no headphone output, no balanced output, and no digital output on the ZEN Air Blue 2. It’s designed purely as a Bluetooth front end for your existing analog system.
Power comes via a USB-A to DC cable (included). You can power it from any USB port, phone charger, or compatible 5–12V DC source. For the cleanest power, iFi recommends their iPower2 low-noise power supply (sold separately). No power adapter is included in the box—but virtually any USB charger will work.
LED indicators on the front show the current Bluetooth codec and pairing status at a glance.
