Recommended Component 2024 – Stereophile
Hero HB Interconnect with Premium WBT CU RCA
Kimber Kable's Hero 102 CU is a four-wire braided analog interconnect using Hyperpure copper and silver conductors. Premium WBT 0102 CU RCA termination gives this cable a performance edge.
Made up of four 19AWG conductors insulated with virgin FEP dielectric. Hero's four-wire quadratic braid provides wide bandwidth and noise reduction without the use of shielding. The four-wire braided geometry also produces ideal results when used in a balanced system with XLR connections for additional immunity to noise and signal degradation.
A balance between low capacitance and low to moderate series induction make Hero an ideal solution for low-level signals, so it is ideal for interconnects.
"Recommended Component" Honors
Stereophile honored Hero Interconnect by awarding it the magazine's coveted Recommend Component status for 2024.
According to Stereophile, Hero is "the 'strong, silent type' when it comes to cables, says the inestimable JM. 'And reasonably priced, into the bargain.'"
Increased Noise Rejection Capability
Among its many other benefits, Hero offers increased noise rejection capability, allowing you to hear the details of your music as if against a silent, 'black' background.
Treating your system to Hero as opposed to lesser cables, you'll enjoy bass response that is tighter more defined. You'll also notice increased high frequency extension and bass impact. Increased midrange transparency and dynamics accompanies a wider soundstage. Vocals and instruments have an increased image focus, for extraordinary realism.
"Best Interconnect"
Hero has been listed in The Absolute Sound High-End Buyer's Guide and/or praised as a "Best Interconnect" by the magazine since at least 2003!
That kind of longevity gives Hero 'legendary cable' status. Superb performance never goes out of date, and the November 2018 issue of The Absolute Sound brings more raves for Hero. "Yielding only a tiny bit in control, top-end transparency, and detailing to PS’s reference, Hero’s bass lives up to its name, prodigious in amplitude and definition," says the magazine, which terms Hero as "dead neutral, with dynamics at once powerful yet finely resolved in an essentially grain-free presentation."
"Bass is Prodigious"
The Absolute Sound magazine rated the Kimber Kable Hero interconnect and Kimber Kable 8TC speaker cable as the "Best Interconnect and Speaker Cable" in the Winter 2008 / Spring 2009 issue. "The Hero's bass is prodigious; the mids are either dead neutral or a notch light, with dynamics at once powerful yet finely shaded. The 8TC is always musical, balancing detail, liveliness, tonal neutrality, and dynamic contrasts with a very realistic, holographic soundstage."
"Ray Kimber has always delivered exceptional sound and value in his low- and mid-priced cables and interconnects; the Hero takes the Finalist honors in a very competitive category. With an accurate tonal balance, great transparency, and wonderful bass definition, the Hero sets the standard in affordable interconnects."
Premium WBT 0102 CU RCA Termination
Hero is terminated with the WBT 0102 CU, a locking RCA featuring contacts manufactured form pure Oxygen Free Copper and plated with a thin layer of 24k Gold to provide protection from oxidation.
The plug body is constructed with brass and then platinum plated. The two-piece clamping sleeve is finished in black piano lacquer. The locking RCA offers maximum contact pressure for a secure connection that also minimizes the transition resistance. Strain relief is effectively provided via a Torx screw.
"A Sonic Near-Twin"
"A sonic near-twin to the more costly Kimber Select KS-1021, Hero yields by direct comparison only a tiny bit in sheer control, ultimate transparency, and inner detail to its pricier brother," reports The Perfect Vision.
"Impressive Feat"
"One ordinarily thinks of a hero as someone who overcomes terrible odds to achieve an overall good. In that context, I think that this latest line of interconnects from Kimber more than lives up to its lofty name," observes John Upton in his review for soundstage.com.
"It cannot be easy to offer the level of detail and refinement presented by the Heroes at such a comparatively low price, but the folks at Kimber Kable have somehow managed to pull off this impressive feat."
