Recommended Component 2025 – Stereophile
So Little Never Bought So Much
Entry-level Tonik interconnect costs only a little. But the enviable performance is true Kimber all the way, thanks to tri-braid field geometry and Varistrand™ ultra-pure copper conductors for accurate audio reproduction on the cheap!
"Recommended Component" Honors
Stereophile honored Tonik by awarding it the magazine's coveted Recommend Component status for 2025.
According to Stereophile "Kimber's most affordable interconnect uses three stranded copper wires neatly braided in a noise-canceling pattern. Though they lacked the resolution of much more expensive interconnects, the Toniks "offered clarity without brightness, and reasonably good amounts of color, texture, and touch…' said AD."
England's What Hi-Fi? magazine praises this bargain cable for its "cohesive and informative presentation."
A New High in Entry Level Performance
Several years ago, Kimber Kable caught the ear of audiophiles and audio critics around the world with its low-price, high-value PBJ interconnect. After years of subsequent research, the company struck again with a new interconnect design that comes in at a price below that of the famous PBJ.
"Great at Preserving the Energy in the Signal"
"The Tonik sits on the first rung of Kimber’s analogue interconnects ladder, but that doesn’t stop it from showcasing many of the company’s trademark design touches," observes What Hi-Fi? magazine, March 2, 2022.
"If you feel your system’s presentation could do with an injection of energy this is certainly a good option. Not that a passive component such as a cable can actually add energy to the sound, of course, more that the Tonik is great at preserving the energy already in the signal."
"A Superb Entry-Level Cable"
"There's a lovely liquid quality to well-recorded upper frequencies, which makes the cable easy to recommend for lovers of unemphatic detail and good imaging," notes Richard Black, techradar.com, March 25, 2010. He sums up Tonik as "tonally neutral and highly compatible."
"The Tonik is a superb entry-level cable that allows us to experience sophisticated Kimber sound, or at least 90 percent of it, without having to break the bank," notes Karsten Hein in his review for Germany's eiaudio.de, January 6, 2021. "The Tonik is definitely a good starting point. And—having listened to it again today—I am certainly keeping mine."
A Truly Accurate Foundation for Music
Tonik interconnect derives its name from the first tone of a musical scale, known as the tonic note or tone.
Like the first tone of a scale, the Tonik interconnect provides the foundation of truly accurate performance and value. Through the use of Kimber Kable's legendary tri-braid field geometry, VariStrand™, Ultrapure copper conductors and Kimber Kable's special recipe PE dielectric, the Tonik allows music to flow with power, smoothness and harmonic richness.
Tonik single-ended uses Kimber Kable's Ultratike™ RCA type connector. Tonik balanced features "studio grade" XLR connectors with silver plated contacts.
"A True Bargain and a 100+ Value"
"The Tonik interconnects from Kimber Kable Company are another new entry by a true high-end audio company into the previously unexplored area of genuine bargain-priced products," observes Karl Lozier, enjoythemusic.com.
"Kimber Kable's Tonik interconnects are a true bargain and a 100+ value product in the bargain audio area. They have a fairly neutral tonal balance and would fit in best where a lean bass range or bright treble response is not desired."
