"The Leak 150s push their own inherent performance envelope to the very edge. For the money, you get a lot. In physical terms, these are big, bold speakers for stand mounts. They dwarf my Spendor A1s and Martin Logan 15is, for example. These are speakers from a bolder time, a greater time, at least in HiFi terms and the days when bulk was best. They make a physical statement.

"In performance terms, the upper frequencies push the envelope to the max, they give you everything they’ve got. They don’t hold back. The 150s are triers, bless ‘em, they put so much effort into what they do… Bass was also exuberant, big, bold yet controlled and focused."

"In short then? One of the most exciting, rousing and dramatic speaker designs I’ve heard in some time, the Leak 150 speakers – for that price point – provide a sensational performance."

    - Paul Rigby, theaudiophileman.com, June 6, 2024

"I've waited 63 years for a Sandwich – but Leak speakers are always worth the wait."

    - Becky Scarrott, techradar.com, February, 2024

"The question is, of course, how do these speakers actually sound?"

"It's been a while since I've heard a domed tweeter this open, this dynamic, and this close to the [MartinLogan] FMT tweeters. Hence, I was impressed by the high frequency performance from the 150s. There's plenty of delicacy here with a lightness and an elegance from the carefully plucked strings from the acoustic guitar…."

"The upper frequencies from the 150s are detailed, lively, responsive, and agile. They excite, they wow, they will have you dancing around the room."

"Let's not forget the bass. For the 150s, it was strong without being boomy. It never overreached. It always remained in control. The bass had plenty of character, too. Low frequencies were anything but one dimensional. Tonal accuracy from the bass was excellent with plenty of tonal shades from the drums."

"These are speakers from a bolder time, a greater time, at least in hi-fi terms…."

"I like their honesty. The bass was exuberant, big, bold, yet controlled and focused. In short, then, these are one of the most exciting, rousing, dramatic speaker designs I've heard in some time. The Leak 150 speakers for their price point provide a sensational performance."

    - Paul Rigby, "The Audiophile Man" YouTube channel, May 19, 2024

"The original Leak Sandwich took its name from the unique construction of its mid/bass drive unit. Although this approach is pretty standard now, it was a first for the industry. At the time, the sandwich consisted of expanded polystyrene foam between two sheets of aluminum foil. It resulted in a light yet stiff cone, reducing distortion and creating a more accurate sound."

"Leak's new Sandwich 150 and 250 are unashamedly inspired by the firm's classic speaker, which debuted in 1961. Bringing the, dare I say, 'crusty', design bang up-to-date Leak tells us that they've spread a healthy layer of state-of-the-art audio circuitry onto the latest iteration."

"The Sandwich 150 and 250 bring the concept into the 21st century and takes into consideration modern amplifiers as, back in the 60s, valve amps and vinyl were de rigueur. Today, it's more solid state power combined with extended frequency response thanks to digital recordings and sources. Today's sandwich, therefore, sees a stiff aluminium skin bonded to a core of aircraft-grade polymethacrylimide (PMI) structural foam for what Leak states as "immense rigidity.'"

    - stereonet.com, February 5, 2024

    "Excellent frequency and transient response…"

"The treble unit includes a damped rear chamber to absorb the output from the back of the 30mm dome, isolating it from the rest of the loudspeaker and reducing its resonant frequency to below the crossover region. This allows bass, mid and high frequencies to be sewn seamlessly together."
