"Enthralled Me Right to the Final Cheeky Plucked Harmonic Note"
Michell is widely known for its superb turntables, tonearms, and other analog gear for extracting the ultimate listening experience from vinyl records. Time and time again, Michell's designers best themselves with a truly transcendental product. And they have done it once more with the Cusis M moving coil cartridge.
More than just the flagship entry in the new Cusis line, the Cusis M offers the audiophile an ultra high-end listening experience at a cost which belies its ability. It's quite simply one of the most accurate and musical moving coil cartridges available at anywhere near the price. If you own a turntable that can do this cartridge justice, you owe it to yourself to upgrade to the Cusis M.
The Cusis M has an ultra-precise Microline stylus for class-leading frequency response and detail retrieval. Other features include a premium boron cantilever, a large aluminum chassis, reduced coil mass, and a carbon loaded acrylic dampening body. The coil material is pure 30µ copper.
The frequency response of the Cusis M is 20-45000 Hz compared to 20-35000 Hz for the mid-entry Cusis S, and channel separation is 28dB, compared to 25dB for the S.
"Every Note Fluid and Traceable"
"The Cusis M, with its carbon-loaded acrylic body, presents as a lyrical performer, splendid at finding the colour and vibrancy of a good concerto recording," marvels Andrew 'Harry' Harrison, hi-fi+, February 6, 2024. "Among its high points, I was struck by the nimble fretwork of John Williams fronting the Philadelphia Orchestra, his first 1965 recording of the piece; the guitar was always clearly set apart from the reverberant orchestra behind, every note fluid and traceable. The second movement enthralled me right to the final cheeky plucked harmonic note."
Michell's Cusis Cartridge Series
All of Michell's Cusis cartridges share the same moving coil design. At the heart of the cartridge is a samarium-cobalt magnet, which is combined with pure iron to create a very stable magnetic field within the cartridge.
Pure 30μ copper wire is used to precision wind the cartridge coils onto an ultra-lightweight armature, which is mounted onto a specially designed damper. This damper has been specifically designed to give the stylus assembly the perfect support, which ensures the stylus tracks the groove precisely.
The number of coils, resultant output, and body material are optimized for each model's stylus assembly to give the best possible audio output.
Advanced Design Eliminates Vibration and Resonance
The construction of each Cusis cartridge has been carefully designed to eliminate vibration and resonance. The aluminum chassis is designed to absorb unwanted vibration and give a rigid platform to mount the cartridge parts.
The body materials, shapes, and exterior patterns further reduce vibration and resonance, resulting in truly unrivalled levels of detail and neutrality.
