They'll Redefine Your Idea of Bookshelf Speakers

The term 'bookshelf speakers' sounds so stuffy. It just doesn't do justice to the sleek and windswept look of MartinLogan's awesome Motion 4 speakers. Set 'em next to your TV, mount them on the wall, or place them on a stand. They work great and sound BIG as front channel speakers in a mid-size home theater system or as surround speakers in a larger set-up.

The Motion 4i is particularly well equipped to excel with two-channel music as well as with multi-channel entertainment sources. Its driver complement consists of a 1" x 1.4" Folded Motion™ high-frequency transducer with a 5.25" x 1.75" diaphragm plus a 4" low frequency driver with stamped steel basket, non-resonant asymmetrical chamber format, and rigid structured dust cap to reduce cone break-up modes.

    The Motion i Series

Inspired by the clarity and detail of MartinLogan’s ultra-high-end electrostatic loudspeakers, Motion 2i, 4i, 6i, and 8i feature exquisite Folded Motion tweeters and powerful bass technology in compact and affordable packages. Key to performance is the lightning fast response of the tweeter’s light-weight diaphragm combined with a large surface area (much larger than a typical one-inch dome tweeter) which together achieve a smooth, refined sound with stunning dynamic range and jaw-dropping clarity certain to inspire envy in audiophiles and non-audiophiles alike.

Precision Vojtko™ crossover topology features custom air core coil inductors, low DCR steel laminate inductors, and polyester film and low DF electrolytic capacitors for a seamless sonic presentation. Flexible installation options allow table top or on-wall installation of all four speakers. Motion 2i and 4i bookshelf speakers can also mount upside down to facilitate placement high on a wall. Motion 6i and 8i can mount horizontally or vertically around a wall-mounted flat screen television.

    Engineering Genius

What makes the Motion i Series sound so amazing? MartinLogan's dedicated in-house engineering team started by utilizing and refining the most advanced, compact technologies and combining them with innovative engineering. The result is an emotionally engaging sound that rivals (and most times trounces) traditional loudspeakers of similar size and price.

    Folded Motion™ Tweeter

MartinLogan's exclusive and highly innovative Folded Motion™ Tweeter helps gives Motion i speakers their fantastically realistic highs. Lightning fast transient response, combined with a large surface area creates clear, highly dynamic, and precise sound.

The Folded Motion™ Tweeter works by moving air (which creates sound) perpendicular to the folded ridges of the diaphragm, similar to how an accordion works. This extremely low mass diaphragm "squeezes" air and requires almost 90 percent less excursion than the typical 1" dome tweeter, which drastically minimizes distortion while providing a lighting fast response time. The increased surface area also provides a wide, yet controlled sound dispersion to create a realistic and carefully etched sound stage.

    Vojtko™ Crossover

Contributing to the superb performance is the legendary Vojtko™ crossover. It is carefully hand-built using only the finest polyester film and low DF electrolytic capacitors, custom air-core coils, and low DCR steel laminate inductor for vanishingly low distortion and seamless driver integration. This precision-tuned network preserves even the most microscopic sonic nuances while handling the full dynamics of any source.

    Curve Appeal

Complementing Motion's sonic accuracy is elegant yet understated styling. Flawless high-gloss, piano black finishes and subtle curves, along with MartinLogan's signature perforated grille, gives Motion i Series speakers an elegant and timeless look. Tower models feature a real-wood veneer finish and a stylish aesthetic certain to blend with any decor.

    Hook-ups, Simplified

Convenient push-style speaker terminals and curved inserts help guide speaker wire effortlessly into place. The rubber end caps on the terminal are also removable for the use of banana plugs instead of bare wire. So simple, you'll actually enjoy hooking up these speakers.

"A lot of technical knowledge and clever engineering went into the design of the MartinLogan Motion 4i bookshelf speakers. They’ve succeeded at a low price."

"A lot of technical knowledge and clever engineering went into the design of the MartinLogan Motion 4i bookshelf speakers. They’ve succeeded at a low price."

    - Mel Martin, Secrets of Home Theater and High Fidelity, March 27, 219

"When space is at a premium, but you refuse to cut corners when it comes to audio fidelity, a system comprised of MartinLogan’s Motion 4i, 8i and Dynamo 8X is a solution that I enthusiastically recommend."

    - Mark Henninger, AVS Forum, February 27, 219

"If you’re looking for something different, and an involving listening experience, I highly recommend that you give the MartinLogan Motion 4i an audition."

    - Vince Hanada, SoundStage! Access, January 1, 219

"Just as MartinLogan has done with their hybrid ESL speakers, the seamless blend between the Motion tweeter and the woofer feels like you are listening to a full range speaker. There is a level of transparency here that just doesn’t happen with other budget small speakers and that’s impressive.̷"

    - Jeff Dorgay, TONE Audio, November 218

"After listening to the Motion 4i, I can attest that this is a very cool little speaker. There are several features the wizards at MartinLogan packed into the speaker that influences its ultimate final sonic signature, but before we dig into that, it's worth asking: what is this speaker, anyway? Is it a near-field monitor for musicians and recording engineers? Is it a good right and left option in an audiophile 2.1 system? Is it good for the right, left, and surround duties of a surround sound system? Is it an option for a computer playback system? The answer to all of the above: yes, yes, yes, and yes!"

    - Scott Schumer, HomeTheaterReview.com, September 26, 218

"If you’re not familiar with the original Motion Series speakers, their performance can best be summed up in two words: “detailed” and “dynamic.” Much like the originals, the amount of sound coming out of these little cabinets is a bit startling."

    - Dennis Burger, Residential Systems, August 2, 218
