What You Need to Know
What Is the Furman Elite-15 DMi?
The Furman Elite-15 DMi is a power conditioner. That means it cleans and protects the AC power coming from your wall before it reaches your audio and video gear.
A regular surge strip just blocks big spikes. The Elite-15 DMi does much more. It filters out the electrical noise that rides along with your power, protects your gear from surges, and even shows you how your power is doing on two front-panel meters. The “DM” in the name stands for Dual Meters. It has 13 filtered outlets and a 15-amp rating, which makes it a great fit for small to medium home theater and hi-fi systems.
Furman has built power gear for recording studios, film, and broadcast for over 40 years. The Elite series brings many of those studio-grade tricks home at a friendly price.
Why It Matters for Your System
Your gear can only sound and look as good as the power feeding it. Noisy power can add hum or hiss to your music and a soft, washed-out look to your screen. The Elite-15 DMi is built to clean that up.
LiFT (Linear Filtering Technology). This is Furman’s noise filtering. It smooths out AC noise evenly across a very wide range. The result is a lower noise floor, so quiet details come through and the picture looks cleaner.
Extra filtering for digital gear. Four of the outlets add ultrasonic filtering. This keeps the high-frequency noise made by digital and video gear from leaking back into your sensitive analog components. There is also “zero ground contamination” circuitry to protect your digital gear.
SMP surge protection that lasts. Series Multi-Stage Protection (SMP) guards your gear from spikes and surges. Many surge protectors use parts that slowly wear out and dump noise to your ground line. Furman’s SMP does not wear out from normal surges and does not pollute your ground.
EVS for extreme events. Extreme Voltage Shutdown (EVS) watches the incoming voltage. If it climbs to a dangerous level, the unit shuts off power to protect itself and everything plugged into it.
Meters you can read at a glance. Two dimmable front-panel meters show your incoming voltage and the current your system is drawing, so you always know what your power is doing.
What Reviewers Say
Reviewers describe the Elite-15 DMi as a solid, well-built conditioner with pro-grade features.
Reviewers at Audioholics (2014) found the Elite-15 DMi to be well built, with a sturdy 2U rack-mountable chassis and Furman’s non-sacrificial series mode surge protection. They noted it is a step above a run-of-the-mill surge strip, with several handy features for an AV rack.
Who It’s Best For
You have a small to medium home theater or hi-fi system and want cleaner, quieter power.
You want to keep digital and video gear from adding noise to your analog components.
You want surge protection that will not wear out over time.
You like the idea of seeing your voltage and current on front-panel meters.
You have a rack and want a clean, professional 2U unit that ties it all together.
How It Connects to Your System
You plug the Elite-15 DMi into a 15-amp wall outlet, then plug your gear into its outlets. It has 13 filtered outlets in all. Nine are linearly filtered outlets on the rear (six of them can be switched on and off with a 12-volt trigger), and four have extra ultrasonic filtering for digital or video gear (two of those can be switched). The 12-volt trigger lets the outlets turn on and off along with the rest of your system.
On the back you will also find a removable surge-protection module for your coaxial (cable/satellite) and telephone lines, so those are protected too. The unit fits a standard equipment rack (2U tall) and has a detachable power cord.
The Elite-15 DMi is a complete unit and works on its own. If you would like help planning which gear goes where, give us a call — we are happy to walk you through it.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does a power conditioner actually do?
It cleans and protects the AC power going to your gear. The Elite-15 DMi lowers electrical noise, keeps digital noise away from your analog components, and shields everything from surges. The payoff is a quieter background and better-protected equipment.
What do the “dual meters” show me?
The two front-panel meters show your incoming line voltage and the amount of current your system is pulling. They are dimmable, so you can turn them down for movie night. It is a handy way to keep an eye on your power.
Do I need anything else to use it?
No extra box is needed. You plug it into a 15-amp wall outlet and plug your gear into it. It even includes a removable module to protect your coaxial and telephone lines.
What is the difference between the switched and unswitched outlets?
Some outlets can be turned on and off with a 12-volt trigger, so they power up with the rest of your system. Others stay on all the time, which is handy for gear you want running even when the system is “off.” Give us a call if you would like help planning which gear goes where.
How is the Elite-15 DMi different from the Furman Reference models, like the IT-Reference 15i?
The Elite-15 DMi brings many Furman technologies (LiFT filtering, SMP, and EVS) to a friendly price, and it is ideal for small to medium systems. The Reference models, like the IT-Reference 15i, step up with an isolation transformer, Discrete Symmetrical Power for video, and a larger current reserve for big amps. If you are not sure which fits your system, give us a call.
Will it change the way my system sounds?
A power conditioner does not add its own sound. What it does is lower noise and protect your gear, which lets your components do their best work. The result is usually a quieter background, so you hear more of the music and see a cleaner picture.
