What Is a Power Amplifier — and Why Go Separates?
A power amplifier has one job: take a small audio signal from your preamp and amplify it with enough muscle to drive your loudspeakers. Unlike an integrated amplifier (which combines a preamp and power amp in one box), a dedicated power amp focuses entirely on that amplification task — and it typically does it better. By separating the delicate preamp circuits from the high-current power stage, you reduce electrical interference and get cleaner, more dynamic sound. This is why serious two-channel systems almost always use separates.
The Vincent SP-332 is a hybrid power amplifier. That means it uses vacuum tubes in the input stage — the part that first receives the signal from your preamp — and solid-state FET (field-effect transistor) output devices to drive your speakers. You get the warmth, richness, and natural tonality that tubes are known for, combined with the power, grip, and long-term reliability of solid-state. It's the approach Vincent Audio has refined over decades, and the SP-332 represents their most capable stereo power amplifier in the PowerLine range.
What Makes the SP-332 Special?
Inside the SP-332, two 6N16 tubes work in a differential push-pull configuration in the input stage, shaping the signal's character with that classic tube warmth before handing it off to the output stage. A third tube — a 6N15 — handles voltage stabilization in the power supply, keeping the operating conditions rock-steady for the most critical part of the circuit. The output stage uses eight large FET transistors (four per channel) that deliver 150 watts per channel into 8 ohms, rising to 250 watts into 4 ohms. Behind it all sits a massive 500-watt toroidal transformer and 80,000 microfarads of EPCOS filter capacitance — the kind of power supply reserve that gives this amplifier its effortless dynamic capability and deep, controlled bass.
The SP-332 evolved from Vincent's long-running SP-331, one of the company's best-selling power amplifiers. The upgrade adds both balanced XLR and single-ended RCA inputs (switchable from the rear panel), making the SP-332 compatible with virtually any preamp on the market. You also get dual speaker outputs — individually switchable from the front panel — so you can run two pairs of speakers in different rooms, switch between them, or bi-wire a single pair. The front-panel VU meters with selectable backlight colors (red, blue, green, or white) aren't just for show — they give you a real-time visual read on your output levels while adding a touch of classic audio style.

Who Is This Amplifier Best For?
The SP-332 is an ideal fit if:
You're building a dedicated two-channel system with separate preamp and power amp components, and you want tube warmth without sacrificing speaker control or power.
You own demanding or power-hungry loudspeakers that need real current delivery — the SP-332's 150 watts into 8 ohms and 250 watts into 4 ohms will handle them with ease.
You already have a quality preamp (tube or solid-state) with either balanced XLR or RCA outputs — the SP-332 accepts both.
You want the option to run two pairs of speakers in different rooms or switch between them from the front panel.
You appreciate classic audio design with VU meters and a substantial, confidence-inspiring build quality.
How Does It Connect to Your System?
The SP-332 is a power amplifier only — it needs a separate preamp or a source with variable output to control volume. On the input side, you have one pair of balanced XLR inputs and one pair of single-ended RCA inputs, selectable via a rear-panel switch. A 3.5mm power control trigger jack lets you automate power on/off with compatible Vincent preamps or other components.
On the output side, you get two sets of high-quality binding posts per channel (four binding posts per channel total), which can be individually switched on and off from the front panel. This gives you the flexibility to drive two speaker pairs in different zones, switch between them, or bi-wire a single pair.
Keep in mind that you'll need a preamp to use the SP-332. Vincent's own SA-32 is the natural companion — it was specifically designed as a matching pair — but the SP-332 will work beautifully with any quality preamp that has RCA or XLR outputs. Frequently Asked Questions
What exactly is a "hybrid" amplifier?
A hybrid amplifier uses vacuum tubes in one part of the circuit and solid-state transistors in another. In the SV-500 MK, the tubes handle the preamp stage (shaping the tone and character of the sound), while transistors handle the power output stage (driving your speakers). The result is the warm, full-bodied sound tubes are known for, combined with the power, reliability, and low maintenance of solid-state. It's genuinely the best of both worlds.
How does this compare to the original Vincent SV-500?
The core amplifier circuit — the part that determines how it sounds — is identical. The MK version adds HDMI with ARC and Bluetooth 5.0, while shifting from four analog inputs and two digital to two analog and four digital. If you primarily use digital sources, the MK is the better-equipped choice. The sound quality remains the same.
Can I connect my turntable to the SV-500 MK?
Yes, but you'll need an external phono preamp (sometimes called a phono stage). The SV-500 MK does not have a built-in phono stage. Vincent makes several excellent options, including the PHO-200 and PHO-500. Connect the phono preamp to one of the two RCA inputs and you're all set. If you need help choosing, give us a call — we're happy to help.
Will 50 watts per channel be enough for my speakers?
For most home listening situations, absolutely. Vincent's robust power supply means the SV-500 MK delivers more authority and dynamic headroom than its 50-watt rating might suggest — multiple reviewers have noted this. It pairs well with bookshelf and floor-standing speakers of moderate to high sensitivity. If you have very large, power-hungry speakers or a very large room, you may want to consider Vincent's more powerful models like the SV-237 MKII.
How long do the tubes last, and can I replace them myself?
Vincent estimates tube life at ten years under normal use, thanks to conservative biasing. When the time comes, all three tubes (2x 6N1, 1x 12AX7) are standard types that are readily available and user-replaceable — no soldering or technician required. Some owners enjoy experimenting with different tube brands to subtly change the sound character, which is one of the fun aspects of tube ownership.
Can I use this as a preamp with a separate power amplifier?
Yes. The rear-panel preamp output lets you use the SV-500 MK as a standalone tube preamp. This is a great upgrade path — start with the integrated amplifier, and if you later want more power, add a dedicated power amp and use the SV-500 MK's tube preamp section to drive it.
How does the HDMI ARC connection work?
Connect a single HDMI cable from your TV's ARC-enabled HDMI port to the SV-500 MK. Audio from your TV's built-in apps (Netflix, Spotify, YouTube, etc.) will route directly through the amplifier and out your speakers. It's one cable, and the sound quality improvement over your TV's built-in speakers is dramatic.
What else do I need to get started?
At minimum, you'll need a pair of speakers and speaker cables. If you want to connect a turntable, add a phono preamp. For digital sources, you may already have everything you need — just connect via Bluetooth, HDMI from your TV, or optical/coaxial from a CD player or streamer. If you'd like help putting a complete system together, call us at 800-942-0220.
Does the SV-500 MK have a remote control?
Yes. Vincent includes a metal remote control that handles volume, input selection, mute, and power. It's slim, well-built, and refreshingly simple — just the controls you actually use, without a sea of extra buttons.
