Match the speaker to the room
A big room and a small room need different speakers. Here is the easy way to pick the right size.
Why it matters
Speakers push air
Sound is just moving air. A speaker pushes air to make the sound you hear.
A big room has lots of air. It needs a speaker that can push a lot, or the music feels far away.
A small room has little air. A big speaker can be too much. The bass gets loud and muddy.
So the goal is simple: match the speaker to the size of the room.

What fits each room
Small Room
A desk, a bedroom, or an apartment. Bookshelf speakers are a great fit. They sound clean and won't take over.
Medium Room
A normal living room. You can go either way — big bookshelf speakers or small floorstanders both work.
Large Room
A big or open space. Pick floorstanding speakers, or speakers with lots of power, to fill the room.

Easy Mistakes
Watch out for these
Too small for the room. Tiny speakers in a big room sound thing and far away.
Too big for the room. Big speakers in a small room get boomy and loud.
Sitting too close. If you sit right on top of the big speakers, the sound never comes together.
