Whomp That Annoying Turntable Hum
Got hi-fi system hum associated with your turntable? If the hum goes away when you unplug and/or disconnect your turntable, you almost certainly do. And if your turntable is a Pro-Ject 15V DC 'table, the Pro-Ject High Power it 2 Grounded High Current Power Supply is the solution your ears have been looking for.
High Power it 2 Grounded High Current Power Supply gets rid of hum, buzz, and other noise associated with turntable grounding problems. Here's what causes the hum and how this power supply eliminates it.
Every Turntable Needs Proper Grounding
Every turntable needs proper grounding. Otherwise, electrical hum may be induced. If a turntable is not properly grounded, it may have what's known as a different "reference potential" than the connected amplifier. These potential differences induce a compensating current which can be heard as hum.
All good turntables come with a separate ground cable that can be connected to standard amplifiers or phono stages, which usually have a ground terminal. This way different potentials are equalized, and hum is no longer audible.
Unfortunately, many modern amps, especially most amps of soundbars or streaming speakers have no ground connection. These systems are referenced as "floating mass systems." If a turntable is connected to such a "floating mass" amplifier, audible hum will be the result.
What it all boils down to, is your turntable needs to be grounded, and that lack of grounding causes hum when it's connected to other gear.
The High Power it 2 Solution
Even if you can't tell "reference potential" from "floating mass," you can still enjoy a performance difference once you add the High Power it 2 to your system.
Pro-Ject designed this three-pin power supply with ground connection for Pro-Ject turntables to dramatically reduce ground related hum problems, especially those occurring with amplifiers with "floating mass" that have no real ground connection.
And here's an additional benefit. The High Power it 2 delivers cleaner current and more power for all Pro-Ject 15V DC turntables, and that can only have a positive effect on performance. So, it's a double win as you whomp that annoying hum.
