What You Need to Know
What Is the DMP-A8, and What Does It Do?
Most hi-fi systems have several separate boxes: one to stream music, one to convert digital audio to analog (that's a DAC — a Digital-to-Analog Converter), and one to control the volume and feed your amplifier. The EverSolo DMP-A8 does all three jobs in one tidy unit.
A network streamer pulls music from the internet or your home network. Services like Tidal, Qobuz, Amazon Music, Spotify, and Deezer are built right in. A DAC turns digital data (ones and zeros) into the analog sound signal your amplifier understands. A preamplifier controls volume and lets you connect other sources — like a TV or turntable — before the signal goes to your power amp or active speakers.
The DMP-A8 also works as a digital audio player (DAP). You can install an internal SSD drive (up to 4TB, sold separately) and store your whole music library right inside the unit. Plug in a USB CD drive, and it can even rip your CDs for you.
All of this is packed into a clean, slim aluminum chassis with a bright 6-inch touchscreen on the front — no laptop needed.
What Makes It Special?
Inside the DMP-A8, EverSolo used components you'd expect to find in products costing far more.
The DAC section uses a dual-chip AKM solution — specifically the AK4191EQ and AK4499EX. AKM is one of the most respected names in DAC chip design. One chip handles the digital processing, the other handles the actual conversion to analog. This separation keeps digital noise away from the analog signal, which is a big deal for sound quality.
Timing is critical in digital audio. Any tiny error in timing — called jitter — can muddy the sound. The DMP-A8 uses two ultra-precise femtosecond clocks (one for 44.1kHz-based audio, one for 48kHz-based audio) to keep everything in perfect step. The result is very low jitter and a measured dynamic range of 128dB — a spec you'd normally only see in dedicated high-end DACs.
The volume control is also a step above the norm. It uses an R2R relay-based ladder network — a mechanical, precision-resistor design that's both quiet and extremely accurate. Every click of the knob (in 0.5dB or 1dB steps) is an analog relay switching, not digital math. It's the kind of volume control found in preamplifiers that cost thousands on their own.
Power is also handled with care. The DMP-A8 uses two separate power supplies — a linear supply (the best kind for audio) for the analog circuitry, and a dedicated switching supply for the digital circuits. Keeping these isolated means less noise in the signal path. The unit also auto-senses your wall voltage (110V or 240V), so it works anywhere in the world with no manual switches.
What Are Reviewers Saying?
The world's largest group of audio-visual media journalists gave the DMP-A8 its top streamer award for 2024–2025. In their citation, EISA noted that the DMP-A8 redefines its category, pairing AKM's latest dual-chip DAC with a high-quality R2R volume control to create a capable preamplifier, all inside a sleek aluminum housing with comprehensive connections.
StereoNet's reviewers honored the DMP-A8 with their Applause Award, calling it a product "destined for the halls of greatness." They praised its attractive build, highly musical presentation, and packed feature list that gives buyers great setup flexibility. They singled out the preamp section as "simply the cherry on top of the cake."
Stereophile's Roger van Bakel called the DMP-A8 "a little music-making powerhouse of exceptional versatility" that "confidently takes a top position in the sub-$5,000 streamer/DAC category." Stereophile's measurements editor also reported state-of-the-art performance in both analog and digital domains, with superbly low distortion and outstanding jitter rejection.
Who Is This Best For?
You want to simplify your system. If you're tired of juggling a streamer, a DAC, and a preamp, the DMP-A8 replaces all three with one box.
You stream music from services like Tidal, Qobuz, Amazon Music, or Spotify — and you want the best sound possible from them.
You use Roon. The DMP-A8 is Roon Ready, so it works as a Roon endpoint right out of the box.
You have a TV, turntable, or CD player you want to connect. The DMP-A8's analog and digital inputs let you route other sources through it.
You want high-end performance without high-end prices. The DMP-A8 competes with gear costing $3,000–$5,000 while coming in under $2,000.
How Does It Connect to Your System?
The DMP-A8 is very flexible. Here's a plain-language breakdown of how it connects:
Streaming inputs (no cables needed): Connect via Gigabit Ethernet (the best option) or dual-band Wi-Fi. Bluetooth 5.0 is also supported for casual listening from a phone.
Digital inputs (for connecting other source components): Two coaxial and two optical (Toslink) inputs handle sources like CD players and TV optical outputs (up to 24-bit/192kHz). One USB-B input lets a computer use the DMP-A8 as a DAC (up to DSD512 / PCM 768kHz). One HDMI ARC input lets you route TV audio directly into the DMP-A8 — a very handy feature for home theater setups.
Analog inputs (for turntables, preamps, and other sources): One RCA stereo pair and one XLR stereo pair let you route analog sources through the DMP-A8's preamp section. Note: the DSP functions do not apply to analog inputs — the signal passes through cleanly without any digital conversion.
Analog outputs (to your amplifier or active speakers): One XLR pair (balanced, 4.2V) and one RCA pair (single-ended, 2.1V). Both can operate at the same time if needed. These connect directly to a power amp or powered speakers — no separate preamp required.
Digital outputs (if you want to use the DMP-A8 as a streamer/transport only): One coaxial, one optical, one USB Audio Out, and one HDMI I2S output. The I2S output is especially useful for connecting to high-end DACs that support this format, as it can carry DSD512 and PCM 768kHz with extremely low noise.
There's also a 12V trigger output to automatically power on a connected amplifier when the DMP-A8 turns on.

Features & Specifications
Premium DAC Chips — AKM AK4191EQ + AK4499EX
This is AKM's flagship "Velvet Sound" dual-chip solution. The AK4191EQ handles all the digital processing, while the AK4499EX does the actual digital-to-analog conversion. Separating these jobs keeps digital noise away from the delicate analog signal — a key reason the DMP-A8 measures so well. The result: a dynamic range of 128dB (XLR) and THD+N of just 0.00009%.
Dual Femtosecond Clocks — Ultra-Low Jitter
There are two separate Accusilicon femtosecond clocks inside the DMP-A8 — one tuned for 44.1kHz-family audio (like CDs and most streaming), one for 48kHz-family audio (like most video content). A femtosecond is one millionth of one billionth of a second. These clocks are extremely precise, which means extremely low jitter. Jitter is tiny timing error in the digital signal that can cause blurring or harshness. Less jitter means cleaner, more natural-sounding audio.
R2R Relay-Based Volume Control
When you turn the volume knob, you hear a satisfying click. That click is a real analog relay switching a precision resistor — not a digital calculation. This R2R (resistor-to-resistor) ladder design is quiet, accurate, and long-lasting. You can adjust in 0.5dB or 1dB steps, up to +10dB of analog gain. This is the kind of volume control used in standalone preamplifiers costing thousands of dollars.
Dual Power Supplies — Clean, Isolated Power
The DMP-A8 uses two separate power supplies. The analog audio circuits are fed by a linear supply with a custom multi-winding toroidal transformer — the quietest type of power supply for audio. The digital circuits use a separate, optimized switching supply. Keeping these isolated means the digital noise from the streamer and processor never reaches your audio signal. The unit is also universal — it auto-detects your wall voltage (110V–240V) without any switches.
6-Inch LCD Touchscreen
The bright, color touchscreen on the front panel shows album art, streaming menus, playback controls, virtual VU meters, and spectrum displays. Everything is right there on the face of the unit. You can also control everything from the free EverSolo app (Android and iOS) or from Roon on a tablet or laptop.
Comprehensive Streaming Support
Built-in apps include Tidal (with Tidal Connect), Qobuz, Amazon Music, Deezer, Radio Paradise, and HighResAudio. Spotify Connect is also supported. For third-party apps like Apple Music and Spotify, EverSolo's proprietary EOS (Eversolo Original Sampling-Rate) Audio Engine bypasses Android's typical audio restrictions and outputs audio at its native resolution. AirPlay, DLNA, UPnP, and Roon Ready are all supported.
HDMI ARC Input — TV Integration
One HDMI ARC (Audio Return Channel) input lets you connect your TV directly. If your TV has an HDMI ARC or eARC output, you can route all of its audio through the DMP-A8. This gives your TV's audio — movies, streaming video, gaming — a major upgrade compared to its built-in speakers or a typical soundbar. The DMP-A8's DSP functions (EQ, filters, etc.) also apply to this input.
Powerful Built-In DSP
DSP stands for Digital Signal Processing — basically, a suite of tools to fine-tune your sound. The DMP-A8's DSP works on all digital inputs (not analog inputs) and includes: parametric EQ (PEQ), FIR filter support (you can import custom filters from measurement software like REW), high-pass and low-pass filters, loudness compensation, compression, and delay. These apply after the DAC to digital inputs and to the internal player. Note: DSP resamples signals to 48kHz.
Internal SSD Storage — Up to 4TB
A slot on the bottom of the unit accepts an M.2 NVMe SSD (not included). Install one, and the DMP-A8 becomes your own personal music server. Plug in a USB CD drive, and it can rip your CDs directly to the internal drive with automatic metadata and artwork pulled from the cloud. You can also connect external drives via the USB-A port.
Balanced, Fully Analog Preamplifier
The DMP-A8's preamp section is fully balanced, meaning the audio signal runs on separate positive and negative paths — a design that helps cancel out noise and interference. It supports both RCA (single-ended) and XLR (balanced) analog inputs, and outputs to both RCA and XLR. This lets you feed a power amp or powered speakers directly, with no additional preamp needed.
Premium Component Quality
EverSolo specifies parts by brand and origin: WIMA capacitors from Germany, Nichicon and Murata capacitors, Omron relays from Japan, and Texas Instruments OPA1612 op-amps from the USA — all chosen for ultra-low noise and distortion. This attention to parts quality is reflected in the measurement results and the praise from independent reviewers.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need anything else to use the DMP-A8?
You just need something to drive your speakers — either a power amplifier or a pair of powered (active) speakers. The DMP-A8 handles streaming, DAC conversion, and volume control all by itself, so there's no need for a separate preamp or DAC. If you're using passive speakers, pair the DMP-A8 with a stereo power amp and you're done. Give us a call at 800-942-0220 and we can help you find the right match.
What streaming services can it use?
The DMP-A8 has built-in apps for Tidal, Qobuz, Amazon Music, Deezer, Radio Paradise, and HighResAudio. Spotify Connect is supported so you can control playback from the Spotify app on your phone. Thanks to EverSolo's EOS audio engine, third-party apps like Apple Music can also be sideloaded and will output at their native high-resolution quality — something very few streamers can do. AirPlay works for iOS devices.
Is the DMP-A8 Roon Ready?
Yes. The DMP-A8 is officially Roon Ready and works as a Roon endpoint. You can control it fully from Roon on a tablet, laptop, or phone. This is one of the most popular ways to use the unit, especially for people with large local music libraries.
Can I connect my TV to the DMP-A8?
Yes — and this is one of the DMP-A8's most useful features. If your TV has an HDMI ARC or eARC output (most modern TVs do), you can connect it directly to the DMP-A8's HDMI ARC input. Your TV's audio — including movies, streaming video, and gaming — will then play through your hi-fi system with better quality than any TV speaker or soundbar can provide.
Can I store my music library locally on the DMP-A8?
Yes. There's an M.2 NVMe SSD slot on the bottom of the unit that accepts drives up to 4TB (drive not included). Install one, and the DMP-A8 becomes your own personal music server. You can also plug in an external USB drive via the rear USB-A port for additional storage or casual use.
Can I rip CDs with the DMP-A8?
Yes. Connect any USB CD drive to the rear USB-A port, and the DMP-A8 will recognize it and let you rip your CDs directly to the internal SSD (or a connected USB drive). Metadata and album art are pulled from the cloud automatically. It's one of the most useful features for people who own large CD collections.
How does the DMP-A8 compare to the DMP-A6?
The DMP-A6 ($859) is a great streamer/DAC at a lower price. The DMP-A8 ($1,980) is a meaningful step up: it adds a true analog preamplifier section (with balanced XLR and RCA analog inputs and outputs), better DAC chips (AKM vs. ESS), dual femtosecond clocks, a dual power supply, and the R2R relay-based volume control. If you need a standalone preamplifier and want better DAC performance, the DMP-A8 justifies the price difference. If you have a separate preamp and don't need analog inputs, the A6 is still excellent.
Can I use the DMP-A8 as just a streamer or transport, feeding a different DAC?
Yes. The DMP-A8 has digital outputs: coaxial, optical, USB Audio, and HDMI I2S. The I2S output is especially useful with high-end DACs that support this format — it can carry DSD512 and PCM 768kHz. You can configure the I2S MUTE pin settings in the menu to match your DAC's requirements. This makes the DMP-A8 a very capable standalone streaming transport, even if you don't use its internal DAC.
Does the EQ and DSP work with all inputs?
The DSP functions (parametric EQ, FIR filters, high/low-pass, etc.) work on all digital inputs — including HDMI ARC, coaxial, optical, USB-B, and the internal streamer. They do not apply to the analog (RCA or XLR) inputs, which pass through cleanly without any digital conversion. Also note that DSP processing resamples audio to 48kHz. If you prefer to keep audio at its native sample rate, you can leave DSP off.
What's the remote control like?
The included BTR-12 remote can work via both infrared (IR) and Bluetooth — so it doesn't need line-of-sight to control the unit from across the room. It covers basic functions like volume, input selection, and play/pause. Most users end up using the EverSolo app on their phone or Roon for full control, but the remote is handy for everyday volume adjustments from the couch.
