One French Box, Every Source You Own
Most components do one thing. The Advance Paris X-Stream 9 does nearly everything a digital system needs: it's a CD player, a network streamer, a full DAC, and an FM, DAB+, and internet radio tuner in one handsome full-width chassis, designed in France with the brand's signature style. Advance Paris calls it a universal source, and for once the name undersells it.
The converter is a Cirrus Logic CS4398 DAC delivering a signal-to-noise ratio above 120dB with distortion below 0.005%. Streaming runs through the Advance PlayStream app, with Spotify Connect, Tidal, Qobuz, Deezer, and Amazon Music built in, plus AirPlay and DLNA network playback over Wi-Fi or Ethernet. The slot-loading CD section uses current-generation Tamul servo technology and reads CD, CD-R/RW, and MP3/WMA discs.
Thousands of internet radio stations join the FM and DAB+ tuners, so every kind of listening, discs, streams, files, and radio, lives in one box.
A DAC for the Rest of Your System
The X-Stream 9 doubles as a serious digital hub. Three optical and two coaxial inputs bring in your TV, transport, or game console, and an XMOS asynchronous USB-B input connects a computer with DSD support. Balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA outputs feed your amplifier, switchable between fixed and variable level, so it can drive a power amp or powered speakers directly, volume on the remote. Digital outputs pass signals onward to another DAC if you choose.
Bluetooth is available through Advance Paris's optional aptX receiver, which plugs into a dedicated rear port.
What Reviewers Are Saying
The Audio Tailor, in an October 12, 2024 review, wrote that the X-Stream 9 "delivers a level of clarity that will have even the most critical audiophiles nodding in appreciation," praising how it covers "everything from CDs to high-resolution digital files with equal finesse" as "an ideal choice for audiophiles who demand versatility without compromising on quality."
Who Is This Source Best For?
- You still play CDs and stream — one box replaces a CD player, streamer, DAC, and tuner.
- You want balanced outputs at this price — XLR connections are rare among all-in-one sources.
- You have several digital sources — five digital inputs plus USB make it the hub of your system.
- You love radio — FM, DAB+, and thousands of internet stations are all built in.
- If Roon or Chromecast is essential to you, the X-Stream 9 supports neither — a Bluesound or Cambridge streamer covers those ecosystems.
How Does It Connect to Your System?
Connect the XLR or RCA outputs to your amplifier, or switch to variable output and feed a power amp or powered speakers directly. Join your network over Wi-Fi or Ethernet and control streaming from the PlayStream app. Your TV, transport, or computer connects through the optical, coaxial, or USB inputs, and the optional Bluetooth receiver plugs into its dedicated rear port.
Then load a CD, tune the radio, or press play on your phone; every source is a button away.
