One French Box, Every Source You Own

Most components do one thing. The Advance Paris X-Stream 9 does nearly everything a digital system needs. It is a CD player, a network streamer, a full DAC, and an FM, DAB+ and internet radio tuner, in one full-width chassis designed in France. Advance Paris calls it a universal source, and for once the name undersells it.

The converter is a Cirrus Logic CS4398. Signal-to-noise is above 120dB, and distortion is below 0.005%. Streaming runs through the Advance PlayStream app. Spotify Connect, Tidal, Qobuz, Deezer and Amazon Music are built in, with AirPlay and DLNA over Wi-Fi or Ethernet.

The slot-loading CD section uses a current Tamul servo. It reads CD, CD-R and CD-RW, along with MP3 and WMA discs, so home-burned discs play as readily as pressed ones.

Thousands of internet radio stations join the FM and DAB+ tuners. Discs, streams, files and radio all live in the one box on the shelf, which is the whole point of a source like this.

A DAC for the Rest of Your System

The X-Stream 9 doubles as a serious digital hub. Three optical and two coaxial inputs bring in a TV, a transport or a game console. An XMOS USB-B input connects a computer to it, with DSD support included.

Balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA outputs feed your amplifier. They switch between fixed and variable level, so it can drive a power amp or powered speakers directly, with volume on the remote. Digital outputs pass the signal on to another DAC if you prefer.

Bluetooth comes through Advance Paris's optional aptX receiver. It plugs into a port on the back that is there waiting for it, so nothing else has to be given up.
