Analysis Plus Black Mesh Oval 9 Speaker Cable - 15 Foot - Spade to Banana - Pair
What It Does in Your System
The Cable That Made This Company's Name, in a Long Run
Oval 9 is the design that put Analysis Plus on the map. Reviewers kept pointing out how little it costs for what it does. Black Mesh Oval Nine is the current version. It adds better connectors, a faster insulation material, and a slightly reworked shape for more even current flow.
This is a matched 15-foot pair with a spade at one end and a banana at the other. Fifteen feet covers a large room, or an amplifier that sits well away from the speakers. The mixed ends suit systems where your amp and your speakers take different connectors.
An Oval Shape That Keeps the Sound Even
Analysis Plus started out as an engineering firm. The Michigan company built its name testing and modeling cables for other manufacturers. Their computer work showed a problem with round wire: the signal bunches up in certain spots, and it bunches differently at different pitches.
So they built a hollow oval shape instead, with the wire woven so every strand sits about the same distance from the return path. Current spreads evenly. Resistance — how much the cable fights the signal — stays about the same from the lowest bass to the highest treble. You hear that as a cable that sounds consistent top to bottom.
Nine Gauge of Copper, Which This Length Puts to Work
This is a thick cable. It uses 9-gauge high-purity copper with the oxygen removed. Over fifteen feet, that mass keeps resistance low enough that your amplifier keeps a firm grip on the woofer all the way to the speaker. Thin cable over a long run gives you loose, vague bass. This does not.
Analysis Plus uses a flexible braid rather than one solid wire. Solid wire kinks and flattens, and that hurts the signal. The braid can't be finished by machine either. Each cable takes over an hour of hand work.
Is This Right for You?
A few things to check before you order:
- Check which end goes where. This cable has a spade at one end and a banana at the other. Make sure each of your components accepts the connector it will get. Some recessed binding posts won't let a spade tighten down properly.
- Measure your real path. At fifteen feet you're routing around furniture or along baseboards. Walk the route with a tape measure, and add a little slack for dressing the cable at each end.
- This is the standard version, not the bi-wire one. It has two wires per end, and one cable goes to each speaker. If your speakers have two sets of posts and you want to bi-wire, Analysis Plus makes the Bi-Oval 9 for that.
Setup & Installation
The banana end pushes straight in and holds by spring pressure. No tools needed. For the spade end, loosen the binding post, slide the spade over it, and tighten it firmly by hand. It should be snug enough that the spade can't turn. Match positive to positive and negative to negative at both ends, and wire both channels the same way.
Check your polarity before you tuck the cable into place. Tracing a reversed channel later means pulling the whole run. The cable is about 20mm by 8mm across, so it's a wide flat oval rather than a round bundle. That shape lies flat along a baseboard or under a rug edge. Thick 9-gauge wire doesn't like sharp corners, so give it a wide curve at every turn.
Features & Specifications
Patented Hollow Oval Geometry
Keeps the signal from bunching up in the wire, so resistance stays steady across the whole range of pitches.
Woven Braided Conductor
Every strand sits about the same distance from the return path, which spreads current evenly and moves the signal better than solid wire.
9-Gauge Oxygen-Free Copper
Thick copper keeps resistance low over long runs, so your amplifier holds its grip on the bass.
Handcrafted Termination
The oval shape and braided wire have to be finished by hand — over an hour of work per cable.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this a pair or a single cable?
This is a matched pair. You get two 15-foot cables, one for each speaker. That's everything you need to wire a stereo system.
Why would I want different connectors on each end?
Because equipment doesn't always agree. Many amplifiers have shrouded posts that only take a banana. Speaker terminals often hold a spade more securely. A mixed cable lets each end use whatever fits best.
Does fifteen feet of cable hurt the sound?
Not much, as long as the copper is thick enough. Nine gauge is generous. What hurts a long run is resistance stealing your amplifier's control over the woofer, and heavy copper is the direct fix for that.
