Solo Crystal Oval Is Analysis Plus's Single-Crystal Copper Interconnect
Analysis Plus's Solo Crystal Oval braids Continuous Cast Copper into the company's hollow oval geometry. Continuous casting draws the copper as one long crystal, so the signal crosses no grain boundaries on the way. Analysis Plus says the design puts nothing in the way of the music. The plugs are the company's non-locking RCAs.
Continuous Cast Copper in a Hollow Oval Braid
The conductors are Continuous Cast Copper, which Analysis Plus also calls solo crystal copper. Ordinary copper is made of many small crystals, and each boundary between them is a small barrier to the signal. Casting the copper as one crystal removes them. The braid is woven into the hollow oval shape for even current flow.
The Non-Locking RCA Plug, Explained
Solo Crystal Oval ends in Analysis Plus's non-locking gold RCA plug, used on many of the company's cables. It pushes straight onto the jack and pulls straight off, with no barrel to twist, so it suits crowded rear panels. The same cable can be ordered with XLR plugs. Analysis Plus makes its RCA plugs in house.
Made by Hand in Michigan
Analysis Plus was founded in 1993 as a scientific research and design company. It builds its cables by hand at its own shop in Flushing, Michigan. The company chose braided conductors because a woven bundle flexes without the stress cracks a solid wire can suffer, and because its weave puts every strand equally close to the return current.
What Reviewers Are Saying
Marc Mickelson reviewed Solo Crystal Oval for SoundStage! in October 2002 and heard cables that sound like "utterly clear conduits between your components and music." He found them "palpable and fleshy through the midrange, the antithesis of thin or bleached."
His verdict was plain: "These are cables with which you can call it quits." He noted the detail is abundant, and that some listeners might see that as a sin of commission rather than a virtue.
Who Is This Interconnect Best For?
- You want clarity without thinness — SoundStage! heard utterly clear cables with a full midrange, so detail comes with body
- You want single-crystal copper — Continuous Cast Copper has no grain boundaries along its length, so the signal crosses none
- Your recordings are good — SoundStage! found the better the software, the better it sounds with these cables
- You want a plug that pushes straight on — the non-locking RCA needs no twist, so crowded panels are easy
- Your components both offer XLR — Solo Crystal Oval is single-ended RCA. If both components have balanced XLR jacks, choose the Analysis Plus Solo Crystal Oval XLR instead. Or call us
How Does It Connect to Your System?
Run Solo Crystal Oval from a line-level output, a DAC, streamer, CD player or phono stage, to a line-level input on your amplifier or preamp. Keep left to left and right to right. Push each plug straight on until it seats. Pull it off by the barrel, never by the cable.
Then listen. Other and longer lengths available. Call for prices.
Pairs Well With
An interconnect is one link in the chain. It usually joins these categories.
- Integrated Amplifiers — the usual input end
- Digital-to-Analog Converters — DAC output to amplifier
- Phono Preamplifiers — phono stage to line input
- Speaker Cables — the last link to the speakers
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the non-locking RCA plug?
Analysis Plus's own gold RCA plug, used on many of its cables. It pushes straight onto the jack with no locking barrel, so it suits crowded rear panels and pulls off without a twist.
What is Continuous Cast Copper?
Copper drawn as one long crystal instead of many small ones. Analysis Plus calls it solo crystal copper. With no grain boundaries along its length, the company says the signal meets fewer barriers.
What is the hollow oval design?
Analysis Plus's own conductor shape. At high frequencies current crowds to the outside of a wire and bunches unevenly. The oval keeps the outgoing and return paths close, and the hollow center drops the metal that would carry little current.
Why braid the conductor?
Analysis Plus says a woven bundle flexes without the stress cracks a solid wire can suffer. Its weave also puts every strand statistically as close to the return current as every other strand.
What warranty does Analysis Plus give?
One year against mechanical defects, from the date of purchase, on cables sold as new. Keep your proof of purchase. The warranty is not transferable and does not cover cables that have been altered or misused.
Is there a step up?
Analysis Plus Crystal Apex is the next rung. It is built like the flagship Silver Apex, with Pure Crystal Copper in a double-shielded design.
