The wires are solid Perfect-Surface Copper+, which AudioQuest calls PSC+. It is a higher grade of the smooth copper used in Golden Gate. AudioQuest says the skin cuts the distortion that grain boundaries cause. Each wire sits in foamed plastic that is mostly air.

The Gold-Plated Purple Copper Plug, Explained

Big Sur ends in a cold-welded plug. Its body is pure Purple Copper, AudioQuest's high-purity copper, under the gold. The cables below it use gold over a base alloy. A press bonds the plug to the wire without solder, which AudioQuest calls a common source of distortion.

A metal layer wraps the cable and soaks up radio noise before it reaches the grounded shield. The layout gives the ground path a lower impedance than the signal path. AudioQuest says this makes the sound richer.
