Evergreen Is AudioQuest's Best-Known Budget Interconnect
AudioQuest's Evergreen sits one step above Tower in the Bridges & Falls series. It carries both channels in one jacket, uses solid Long-Grain Copper, and ends in AudioQuest's cold-welded gold plugs. It has sat in Stereophile’s Recommended Components for years.
Solid Long-Grain Copper in Foamed Insulation
The wires are solid Long-Grain Copper, or LGC. Solid wire has no strands to rub against one another, which AudioQuest names as a major source of distortion. LGC also has fewer oxides and grain boundaries than ordinary copper. Each wire sits in foamed plastic that is mostly air.
The Cold-Welded, Gold-Plated Plug, Explained
Evergreen ends in AudioQuest's own gold-plated RCA plug. It is cold welded, not soldered. A press bonds the plug to the wire under high pressure. AudioQuest calls solder "a common source of distortion." The cold weld keeps the wire's character right up to the contact.
A metal layer wraps the outside and soaks up radio noise before it reaches the grounded shield. AudioQuest calls it Metal-Layer Noise-Dissipation. The layout gives the ground path a lower impedance than the signal path for a richer sound.
What Reviewers Are Saying
Evergreen appears in Stereophile’s Recommended Components for 2026, posted April 10, 2026. Stephen Mejias ran it from a laptop to desktop speakers and wrote: "Suddenly, I had real high-fidelity sound coming from my laptop."
What Hi-Fi? reviewed Evergreen on August 1, 2012 and was "immediately surprised by the amount of information this interconnect conveys." It also found the sound lean, warning that the clarity "can veer into brittleness at times."
Who Is This Interconnect Best For?
- You want the classic budget upgrade — Evergreen has sat in Stereophile’s list for years, so the choice is safe
- Detail matters more than warmth — What Hi-Fi? heard up-front, expressive vocals, so voices step forward
- Space behind the rack is tight — one slim cable carries both channels, so it bends where a pair will not
- You want no solder in the path — AudioQuest cold welds the plug to the wire, so the joint is metal on metal
- Your left and right jacks sit far apart — both channels share one jacket here. For mono amps or a wide rack, choose the AudioQuest Red River pair instead. Or call us
How Does It Connect to Your System?
Run Evergreen from a line-level output, a DAC, streamer, CD player or phono stage, to a line-level input on your amplifier or preamp. Keep left to left and right to right. Push each plug straight on until it seats. Pull it off by the barrel, never by the cable.
Then listen. Other and longer lengths available. Call for prices.
Pairs Well With
An interconnect is one link in the chain. It usually joins these categories.
- Integrated Amplifiers — the usual input end
- Digital-to-Analog Converters — DAC output to amplifier
- Music Streamers — streamer output to amplifier
- Speaker Cables — the last link to the speakers
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the cold-welded, gold-plated plug?
AudioQuest's own gold-plated RCA plug. It is joined to the wire by pressure, not solder. AudioQuest names solder as a common source of distortion.
Is it shielded?
Yes. AudioQuest's Metal-Layer Noise-Dissipation gives full coverage. AudioQuest says it absorbs radio noise before the noise reaches the layer that is tied to ground.
What warranty does AudioQuest give?
A limited lifetime warranty to the original owner, for cables bought from an authorized US dealer. AudioQuest will repair or replace a defective cable that has not been abused. Keep your proof of purchase.
Is there a step up?
AudioQuest Golden Gate is the next rung. It moves from Long-Grain Copper to AudioQuest's smoother Perfect-Surface Copper.
