AudioQuest's Flagship, Built for 20 Amps
The AudioQuest PowerQuest 909 sits above the 707 as AudioQuest's flagship power conditioner. The biggest difference is capacity.
It's rated for a full 20 amps RMS. That's well beyond the 15-amp rating shared by the 303, 505, and 707.
A Transient Power Correction reservoir still adds up to 45 amps of peak current for 25 milliseconds. That's the same feature that sets the 707 apart from the 505. Here, it's layered onto a chassis built for serious continuous draw.
Twelve hospital-grade outlets split the load. Four High-Current outlets with Transient Power Correction serve amplifiers, powered speakers, and subwoofers. Eight Ultra-Linear Filtered outlets serve source components.
Non-sacrificial surge protection handles repeated 6000V and 3000A surges without wearing out. An Extreme Voltage Shutdown watches the line too. It opens the main relay in under a quarter second if voltage climbs to 140VAC.
A Heavier Build and a Cable to Match
Filtering matches the 707's wide-bandwidth approach. Differential-mode noise reduction runs from 8kHz to 1GHz. Common-mode filtering covers 30kHz to 100MHz. Both are rated above 23dB of reduction.
At 16.9 pounds and 14.9 inches deep, the 909 is noticeably heavier and larger than its siblings. AudioQuest built its internal components specifically for the higher current load.
The included 2-meter PQ-920 cable steps up to match. It uses a 20-amp C19 connector, not the standard plug on the smaller models.
Inside, AudioQuest's Perfect-Surface Copper+ conductors sit alongside Long-Grain Copper. The same ZERO-Tech and RF/ND-Tech noise reduction from the 505 and 707 carries over too.
A 45/90-degree flat-to-wall plug and a 2U rack-mounting kit keep installation simple, despite the added size and weight.
Who Is This Power Conditioner Best For?
- Owners of amplifiers or systems that draw serious continuous current. The 20-amp rating covers higher-power gear the 15-amp models weren't built for.
- Anyone assembling a true reference-level system. The 909 is AudioQuest's top power conditioner, paired with its heaviest included cable.
- Listeners who've outgrown the 707. The same Transient Power Correction carries over, now backed by a higher-capacity chassis.
- Anyone whose amplifier or receiver requires a 20-amp/C19 connection. The included PQ-920 cable is built for that connector type.
- Not the right fit for a typical two-channel or home theater setup. Most systems never approach 20 amps of continuous draw, and the 707 costs considerably less.
How Does It Connect to Your System?
The included PQ-920 cable runs from the 909 to your wall outlet, using a 20-amp C19 connector. Confirm your outlet or receptacle supports that rating before ordering.
Plug amplifiers, powered speakers, or subwoofers into the four High-Current outlets to draw on the Transient Power Correction reservoir. Route sources like a DAC, streamer, or preamp into the eight Ultra-Linear Filtered outlets.
The 2U rack-mounting kit lets it sit flush behind a rack, or mount directly into a rack frame despite its larger size.
Pairs Well With
Building your system? Here are some great companions for the AudioQuest PowerQuest 909:
- Power cables if you want to move beyond the included PQ-920
- Integrated amplifiers to draw on the Transient Power Correction reservoir
- Interconnect cables to finish out a quieter, cleaner-running system
- Audio racks sized for 2U rack-mounting the 909 directly
Frequently Asked Questions
Why would I need 20 amps instead of the standard 15?
Higher-power amplifiers, multi-component racks, or home theater systems with several power-hungry pieces can approach or exceed a standard 15-amp circuit. The 909 is built to handle that continuous load.
How is the 909 different from the 707?
Both share Transient Power Correction and similar filtering. The 909 steps up to a 20-amp rating and a heavier chassis. Its included cable also uses a 20-amp C19 connector and Perfect-Surface Copper+ conductors.
Does it come with a compatible power cable?
Yes. The included PQ-920 cable is rated for the 909's full 20-amp capacity with a matching C19 connector.
Can it be rack-mounted?
Yes. A 2U rack-mounting kit is included, so it drops into a standard rack despite its larger size and weight.
What's the warranty?
AudioQuest covers the PowerQuest 909 for five years against defects in materials and workmanship.
