AudioQuest ThunderBird GroundGoody Ground Cable - 1.0 Meter
What It Does in Your System
A Ground Wire That Doesn't Behave Like an Antenna
Here's the problem with ground wires: every length of wire is an RF antenna, including the one you install to get rid of hum. Most turntable ground leads are an afterthought — a thin length of whatever was cheapest — and while they may solve the hum, they're busy collecting radio-frequency noise and delivering it straight to your phono stage's ground reference.
The ThunderBird GroundGoody is AudioQuest's answer. It grounds turntables, ground boxes, subwoofers, and powered speakers while actively dissipating RF rather than gathering it.
RF/ND-Tech Cancels the Noise Instead of Just Draining It
ThunderBird carries AudioQuest's strongest noise-dissipation technology — the patented RF/ND-Tech behind their Level 8 Noise-Dissipation. Rather than simply providing a path to ground, it uses a common-mode phase-cancelling array that dissipates noise linearly along the entire length of the cable.
What you'll hear is the hum gone, and beneath it a quieter, more settled background than an ordinary ground wire delivers. Less circuit misbehavior means more of the low-level detail in a record's groove actually reaching you.
Silver Conductors and Spades Made to Be Heard, Not Admired
ThunderBird uses solid high-silver-content conductors, direction-controlled so induced noise drains the right way, cold-welded to #10-size spade lugs — a solder-free connection at both ends.
The spades are Direct-Silver Plated, which means the silver goes straight onto the base metal with no underlying nickel layer. They look dull rather than bright as a result, and that's deliberate: nickel is shiny and it causes distortion. AudioQuest chose the sound over the shine.
Is This Right for You?
A few things to know before ordering:
- You're chasing hum, or you want a quieter noise floor. The classic use is a turntable-to-phono-stage ground, but it works equally for ground boxes, subwoofers, and powered speakers wherever a ground connection is called for.
- Check your components' ground terminals. This cable is terminated with #10-size spade lugs at both ends. Most turntables and phono stages use a small screw-down ground post that accepts a spade, but confirm yours does before ordering.
- It can also complete a phono cable — with one important exception. Pair a GroundGoody with nearly any analog interconnect and you have a low-distortion phono cable. The exceptions are AudioQuest's ZERO-Tech interconnects — Black Beauty, Pegasus, ThunderBird, FireBird, and Dragon — which are not compatible with phono cartridges.
Setup & Installation
Connect one spade to the ground post on your turntable and the other to the ground terminal on your phono stage, preamp, or integrated amp. Loosen each post, slide the spade underneath or around it, and tighten firmly. The conductors are direction-controlled, so orient the cable per the markings — running from the turntable toward the phono stage.
If you're using it for a subwoofer or powered speaker, the ground terminal is usually a marked screw post on the rear panel. One meter gives comfortable reach between components on the same rack or an adjacent surface. Route it away from AC power cords where you can — even a cable this good has less noise to dissipate if you don't hand it any.
Features & Specifications
RF/ND-Tech Patented Noise Dissipation
AudioQuest's strongest noise-dissipation technology cancels most induced RF noise rather than passing it along to your components.
Common-Mode Phase-Cancelling Array
A patented circuit topology that dissipates noise linearly across the cable's entire length, not just at the endpoints.
Direction-Controlled Solid Conductors
Conductor direction is controlled so induced noise is drained away from where it causes distortion.
Cold-Welded, Direct-Silver Plated #10 Spades
Silver applied straight to the base metal with no distortion-causing nickel underneath, joined without solder.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will this fix my turntable hum?
If the hum comes from a missing or poor ground connection, yes — that's exactly what a ground wire does. What sets the ThunderBird apart is that it does the job without acting as an RF antenna in the process. If your hum persists after grounding, the cause is elsewhere in the system and we're happy to help you track it down.
Can I use this to build a phono cable?
Yes. Combine a GroundGoody with nearly any analog interconnect and you have a complete low-distortion phono cable. The one exception is AudioQuest's ZERO-Tech interconnects — Black Beauty, Pegasus, ThunderBird, FireBird, and Dragon — which aren't compatible with phono cartridges.
Why do the spades look dull instead of shiny?
That's the Direct-Silver plating. Most plated connectors have a bright nickel layer underneath, which looks better and sounds worse. AudioQuest puts the silver directly on the base metal and accepts the duller finish.
