The Way Into Aurender
The N150 is where the Aurender range starts. It follows the N100H, which earned the company much of its reputation, and it is the model most people arrive at when they decide a laptop is no longer good enough as a source.
That is the honest use case. A computer runs fans, spins drives, and shares its power supply with a dozen other jobs at once. The N150 does one thing only, in a machined aluminum case, with a full linear power supply feeding both the processor and the output stage.
What Is Actually Inside
A low-power Intel dual-core processor handles playback, picked because it runs quiet rather than fast. Behind it sit 8GB of system memory and a 240GB solid-state cache. Files are read ahead into that cache, so playback never has to wait on a disk or on the network.
Clean Output, and Storage If You Want It
Digital output is Audio Class 2.0 USB, with its own ultra-low-noise power circuitry. It carries PCM up to 32-bit and 384kHz, and DSD from DSD64 right through to DSD512. The Gigabit ethernet port is twice isolated to keep network noise off the audio side.
Add a Drive, or Do Not
There is room inside for a single drive: a 2TB or 4TB hard disk, or an SSD from 1TB up to 8TB. If you stream everything from Tidal, Qobuz or Spotify, fit nothing at all and the N150 works exactly as designed.
A super-capacitor supply is built in as well. If the power fails while the unit is running, it stays alive long enough to shut itself down properly rather than dropping dead mid-write.
The front carries a 3-inch AMOLED display showing the album and track. Everything else happens in Aurender's Conductor app, on an iPad, an iPhone or an Android tablet, which is where you browse, search and build playlists.
Who Is This Music Streamer Best For?
- You are replacing a laptop as your source — no fans, no shared power supply and no operating system doing other work, which is most of what separates a computer from a music player.
- You already own a converter — the N150 feeds it a cleaner signal than a computer can, so the money goes into the weak link rather than the one you already fixed.
- You keep some music locally — one internal bay takes up to an 8TB SSD, and you choose the drive rather than paying for storage you may not need.
- You want it to survive a power cut — the super-capacitor supply shuts the unit down cleanly instead of leaving a library index half-written.
- The N150 is a transport, not a DAC — its output is digital only, so it needs a converter to make sound. Choose one from our DACs.
How Does It Connect to Your System?
Run the Audio Class 2.0 USB output to your converter, and join the N150 to your network over the isolated Gigabit ethernet port. Then install the Conductor app on a tablet or phone, which is how you browse and play.
If you want a local library, fit a single hard drive or SSD inside. Streaming only? Leave the bay empty. Playback runs from the solid-state cache in both cases.
Pairs Well With
Building your system? Here are some great companions:
- DAC: The N150 needs one, and rewards a good one — browse our DACs.
- Integrated Amplifier: To finish the system — see our Integrated Amplifiers.
- Cables: A good USB run to the converter — see our Interconnect Cables.
- Audio Rack: Give it a settled home — see our Audio Racks.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a separate DAC?
Yes. The N150 has a digital output only, so it feeds a converter rather than an amplifier.
What resolution does the USB output carry?
PCM up to 32-bit and 384kHz, and DSD from DSD64 through DSD128 and DSD256 to DSD512.
Can I add storage inside?
Yes, one drive: a 2TB or 4TB hard disk, or an SSD of 1TB, 2TB, 4TB or 8TB. It can also be left empty.
How is it different from the N100H it replaces?
A new dual-core processor, a low-noise linear power supply, more system memory, and the twice-isolated Gigabit ethernet port.
How do I control it?
Through Aurender's Conductor app on an iPad, iPhone or Android tablet. The 3-inch AMOLED display shows what is playing.
Which services does it reach?
Tidal, Qobuz, Spotify and internet radio, alongside anything stored on an internal drive or your network.
