Just Add Speakers
The Bluesound Powernode Edge puts a streamer, a converter and a stereo amplifier in one small box. Connect a pair of passive speakers, open the BluOS app, and you have a system. Nothing else is needed and nothing else has to be wired.
The case measures 8.6 by 7.6 inches and weighs three pounds. It sits on a shelf, or goes on a wall with the bracket in the box. That makes it a fit for a bedroom, an office, a den or a smaller living room.
Clean Power for the Rooms It Was Built For
A DirectDigital amplifier supplies 40 watts per channel into 8 ohms. That is enough to fill the kind of room this thing is meant for, and to give television sound a clean, open feel that a soundbar never quite manages.
BluOS, AirPlay and the TV, All in One Box
BluOS opens up the major music services, internet radio, and anything stored on your network or a USB drive. AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, Qobuz Connect and Roon are all supported, and two-way Bluetooth with aptX HD sends as well as receives.
Files play up to 24-bit and 192kHz, and DSD256 is supported too. Group the Edge with other BluOS players and the same music follows you from room to room, in sync, from the one app.
The Television, and Everything Else
HDMI eARC connects a TV and lets its own remote handle the volume. The Edge can also join a Bluesound home theater setup and drive the rear surround speakers. A shared optical and 3.5mm input takes one more source of your own.
You also get USB playback, wired Ethernet, a subwoofer output and proper speaker terminals. Touch controls on the top cover play, pause, volume and track skip, and the Edge will learn commands from an infrared remote you already own.
What Reviewers Are Saying
What Hi-Fi? found the Edge sounded "capable from the start," with "clarity in spades and an ample amount of big, open space around each instrument."
Volume was never the issue. "Power and volume aren’t an issue at all," the magazine wrote, adding that on Wet Leg "there’s snap to the drums" and "voices come through clear and upfront."
The one thing the review missed is worth knowing before you buy: there is "No headphone port" on the Edge, so wired headphones are not part of the picture.
Who Is This Streaming Amplifier Best For?
- You want a system, not a rack — streamer, converter and amplifier in one box means a pair of speakers is the only other thing you have to buy.
- Space is the constraint — at 8.6 inches wide, and wall-mountable with the included bracket, it goes where a full-size component simply would not.
- The television is in the same room — HDMI eARC hands its sound to real speakers and lets the TV remote set the volume, so nobody has to learn a second control.
- You want the house covered eventually — group it with other BluOS players and the same music follows you room to room, added one box at a time.
- The Edge is built for one pair of speakers in a small or medium room — 40 watts per channel will not fill a large space with hungry floorstanders. Match it with a pair from our bookshelf speakers.
How Does It Connect to Your System?
Wire a pair of passive speakers to the terminals and join the Edge to your network over Wi-Fi or Ethernet, then let the BluOS app find it. A television connects on HDMI eARC, and a CD player on the optical input.
A turntable needs a phono preamp before it reaches the 3.5mm analog input. There is a subwoofer output for a powered sub, and the Edge can act as the rear channels in a Bluesound home theater system.
Pairs Well With
Building your system? Here are some great companions:
- Speakers: One pair is all it needs — see our Bookshelf Speakers.
- Subwoofer: There is a dedicated output for one — see our Subwoofers.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a separate amplifier?
The Powernode Edge has a stereo amplifier built in. Connect a pair of passive speakers and you are done.
Can I connect it to my TV?
Yes. HDMI eARC sends the television's sound to the Edge, and a compatible TV remote can control the volume.
Can I listen on headphones?
Over Bluetooth, with aptX HD support. The Edge has no wired headphone jack, so a pair of wireless headphones is the way in.
Can I connect a turntable?
Yes, with a phono preamp between the two. The Edge's analog input expects a line-level signal.
What resolution does it play?
Files up to 24-bit and 192kHz, and DSD256, over the network or from a USB drive.
How much power does it deliver?
40 watts per channel into 8 ohms from its DirectDigital amplifier.
