What You Need to Know

The Bowers & Wilkins 705 S3 is a standmount speaker built with technology borrowed from B&W's flagship 800 Series. Its 1-inch decoupled Carbon Dome tweeter sits alone on top of the cabinet, isolated from the rest of the enclosure—the same Tweeter-on-Top layout B&W uses on its reference speakers. Because the tweeter is mechanically decoupled from the woofer beneath it, it stays free of cabinet vibration, so the highs stay clean and detailed even as the music gets loud and complex.

Below the tweeter is a 6.5-inch Continuum cone woofer, the composite material B&W developed to replace the paper and Kevlar cones used in earlier B&W speakers. It resists flexing under power, so midrange detail holds up at higher volumes instead of smearing. A rear-firing Flowport reduces air turbulence and extends bass response down to 50Hz from a compact 13.3-inch-deep cabinet. The 705 S3 is a passive design, powered by your stereo amplifier or AV receiver, with 3-way binding posts that support both single-wire and bi-wire connections.
