Bowers & Wilkins CCM632 In-Ceiling Speaker — Pair
What It Does in Your System
Real Sound From a Very Small Hole
Small in-ceiling speakers are hard to get right. Shrink the driver too far and the bass disappears. The usual fix is a two-way design with the tweeter mounted in front of the woofer — but then the woofer fires around the tweeter's body, and that adds coloration.
Bowers & Wilkins took the other path with the CCM632. One 75mm (3-inch) full-range driver covers the whole range on its own. Nothing sits in front of it, so nothing gets in the way.
A Sealed Enclosure Built In
Most in-ceiling speakers are open at the back, firing half their energy into the joist cavity. The CCM632 has its own integral enclosure instead.
Two things follow. Sound bleeds far less into the room above or next door, which matters in a bedroom ceiling or a shared wall. And the driver works against a known, controlled volume of air rather than whatever happens to be in your ceiling.
ZipDogs Mounting and Two Grille Shapes
Bowers & Wilkins uses its ZipDogs fixing system here. The clamps handle nearly any panel thickness, so the same speaker installs in thin drywall or a thick ceiling without extra parts.
Each pair ships with both round and square grilles, held on by magnets. Choose the shape that suits the room, and paint the grille and bezel to match the ceiling if you want them to disappear entirely.
Is This Right for You?
Three things to confirm before you cut a ceiling:
- Measure the depth, not just the cutout. The hole is only 120mm (4¾ inches) across, but the speaker needs 100mm (4 inches) of clear space behind the ceiling. That is deeper than many open-back models, so check for ducts, pipes, and joists first.
- Add a subwoofer for real bass. A 3-inch driver reaches down to about 100Hz. That is fine for background music, ceiling surrounds, or overhead Atmos effects. For full-range music in a main room, pair these with a subwoofer.
- Check your amplifier's power. Bowers & Wilkins recommends 10 to 60 watts. Sensitivity is 84dB, which is on the low side, so these want a bit of power to play at a comfortable level.
Setup & Installation
Cut a 120mm (4¾ inch) hole for each speaker. The frame measures 147mm (5.8 inches) across, so it covers the cut with room to spare, and the speaker protrudes just 5.5mm (0.22 inches) below the ceiling once installed.
Run speaker wire to each location before you close up the ceiling. If you are installing during new construction or a remodel, the PMK C3 pre-mount kit lets you set the position before the drywall goes up — it is sold separately.
Features & Specifications
Single Full-Range Driver
One 75mm paper cone covers the entire range, avoiding the coloration a front-mounted tweeter causes in small two-way designs.
Integral Back Box
A built-in sealed enclosure that limits sound bleed into adjoining rooms and controls the driver's loading.
ZipDogs Fixing System
Clamps that grip almost any mounting panel thickness, so installation is quick and no extra hardware is needed.
Round and Square Grilles Included
Both shapes ship in the box, attach magnetically, and can be painted to match the ceiling.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a subwoofer with these?
For background music or ceiling surround effects, no. For full-range music in a main listening room, yes — the response drops off below about 112Hz, so a subwoofer fills in what a 3-inch driver cannot.
Can I paint the grilles?
Yes. Both the round and square grille and bezel assemblies are designed to be customized, which is how these disappear into a ceiling.
Will they fit my ceiling?
The cutout is small at 120mm, but the 100mm depth requirement is the part to verify. Check for joists, ductwork, and plumbing in the cavity before cutting. If depth is tight, a shallower open-back model may be the better fit.
