Turn a Round Ceiling Speaker Into a Square One

Bowers & Wilkins in-ceiling speakers ship with round grilles. That suits most rooms, but not every ceiling. Square works better where the architecture is built on straight lines, or where the speakers need to align with recessed lights and other fittings.

This kit changes the shape without changing the speaker. You get a square magnetic grille and an adapter frame that sits over the existing round opening.

Fits the CCM68 Family

The 68 kit is sized for Bowers & Wilkins in-ceiling models whose numbers begin with CCM68 — the 8-inch models in the range. There is a separate 66 kit for the smaller CCM66 models, and the two are not interchangeable.

Check your speaker's model number before ordering. It is printed on the speaker itself and on the original carton.

Paintable, and Fitted Whenever You Like

Both the grille and the adapter frame are designed to be painted, so they can be matched to the ceiling and effectively disappear.

Installation works either way — before the speaker goes in, or after it is already up and running. You do not need to pull a working speaker out of the ceiling to change its grille shape.

Is This Right for You?

Confirm these before ordering:

• Your model number begins with CCM68. If it begins with CCM66, order the 66 version instead. Call us at (800) 942-0220 with your model number if you are not certain.
• This is sold individually. One kit covers one speaker. For a stereo pair, order two.
• You will need drywall squares. The installation calls for four sheetrock squares per speaker, and these are not supplied with the kit.

Setup & Installation

Remove the existing round grille — it is held magnetically, so it lifts straight off. Fit the square adapter frame in its place, following the instructions supplied with the kit.

The square grille then attaches magnetically to the frame. If you plan to paint, do it before final fitting and let everything dry fully so the magnets seat properly.

Will this fit my CCM66 speaker?
No. The 66 and 68 kits are sized differently. CCM66 models take the 66 version; CCM68 models take this one.

Do I have to remove the speaker to fit this?
No. The kit is designed to work on speakers already installed in a finished ceiling, as well as on new installations.

Does a square grille change the sound?
No meaningful difference. The grille shape is a visual choice — the driver, enclosure, and opening are unchanged.
