Monoblock Power, One Chassis
The 14B³ is the stereo flagship of Bryston's Cubed series: 600 watts per channel into 8 ohms, and 900 into 4. That is the kind of power usually sold as a pair of monoblocks, on two shelves, with two power cords.
Bryston gets there by building the amplifier as two independent monoblocks that happen to share a case. Each channel has its own power supply and its own transformer. The only thing the two channels share is the mains cord.
So you save a shelf, a cable run and a second outlet, and you give up nothing in channel separation. For a speaker that needs current more than it needs finesse, that is the whole argument.
What 600 Watts Is Actually For
Power like this is not about volume. It is about control over speakers that fight back: low-sensitivity designs, hard 4-ohm loads, big planars and electrostatics that only wake up when there is current behind them.
The measurements say it stays clean while doing it. THD+N holds at or below 0.005% from 20Hz to 20kHz at rated power, and noise sits at −118dB through RCA and −122dB balanced — the quietest figures in the Cubed range.
Response runs from below 1Hz to 100kHz at −3dB. Gain switches between 23dB and 29dB to suit your preamp. The patented Salomie input circuit rejects the Wi-Fi and switching-supply noise a modern house is full of. It weighs 91 pounds, is convection cooled with no fan, and Bryston builds it in Dwight, Ontario, with a 10-year warranty.
What Reviewers Are Saying
Christiaan Punter of HiFi-Advice reviewed the 3B, 4B and 14B Cubed together on 26 December 2017. Against its smaller siblings, he wrote, "The Bryston 14B Cubed certainly brings more authority and confidence."
Crucially, that authority costs nothing in agility: "in spite of its huge power, the 14B Cubed does not sound like a powerhouse, in other words, it is not any slower or fatter than the 3B." The Cubed series overall, he concluded, "really has taken the sound to a whole new level."
Who Is This Amplifier Best For?
- Your speakers are current-hungry — 600 watts into 8 ohms and 900 into 4 is what planars, electrostatics and low-sensitivity floorstanders need before they show you what they can do.
- You want monoblock power without monoblocks — two independent supplies and transformers in one case saves a shelf, a cable run and a second outlet, and costs nothing in channel separation.
- Your room is large — this is the amplifier that stops a big space from swallowing dynamics, so the quiet passages still have shape at the far end of the room.
- You buy once and keep it — ten years of warranty, convection cooling with no fan to fail, and a factory printout of your own unit's measurements in the box.
- You already own a preamp, or plan to add one — BR-20 is the matched choice, and a streamer/DAC preamp works equally well
How Does It Connect to Your System?
Run your preamplifier in by balanced XLR or single-ended RCA, choosing the input on the rear panel. Speakers connect to heavy-duty binding posts that accept spades, bananas or bare wire.
Set gain to 23dB or 29dB so your volume control lands in a normal range. A DC trigger powers the amplifier up with the rest of the system, and the controlled startup sequence keeps 91 pounds of amplifier from tripping a breaker.
Pairs Well With
Building around the 14B³? Here are some great companions:
- Preamplifier: Required, and the natural next decision — see our Preamplifiers.
- Speaker Cables: Nine hundred watts into 4 ohms asks a lot of cable — see our Speaker Cables.
- Interconnects: Balanced XLR is the better run from preamp to amp — see our Interconnect Cables.
- Audio Rack: Ninety-one pounds needs a shelf built for it — see our Audio Racks.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much power does it make?
600 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 900 watts per channel into 4 ohms.
Is it really dual mono?
Yes. Each of the two channels has a fully independent power supply, including its own transformer. The mains cord is the only shared part.
How is it different from the 4B³?
Power and weight. The 4B³ makes 300 watts per channel and weighs 42 pounds; the 14B³ makes 600 and weighs 91. Both use the same Salomie input circuit.
Can I rack-mount it?
The 17-inch and 19-inch faceplates on this listing are not rack-mountable, though the 19-inch adds front handles. Bryston makes a separate PRO version with a rack-mount panel — call us on 800-942-0220 and we will sort out which you need.
Does it need a fan?
No fan is fitted and none is needed. The 14B³ is fully convection cooled, so it makes no noise of its own.
Where is it built, and what warranty does it carry?
Bryston builds it in Dwight, Ontario, Canada, and covers it with a 10-year warranty.
