What Is This Cable and What Does It Do?

This is the 20-amp version of the Cardas Clear Beyond Power Cable. It's the same cable inside as the C13. Only the connectors and amp rating are different. Its job is to send clean, steady AC power from your wall to a high-current amp.

Which Products Does the C19 Cable Work With?

C19 is the higher-current IEC connector. You'll find it on big power amps and monoblocks that draw a lot of current. The shape is wider and turned sideways compared to a regular C13.

• Common C19 gear: High-current and Class A power amps, large monoblocks (Pass Labs XA, Mark Levinson reference, McIntosh MC, Bryston monos), reference integrated amps, and high-end power conditioners (Shunyata, Furman P-2400 reference, Audience aR12).
• How to confirm: Check your gear's manual or look at the inlet on the back. C19 inlets are wider than the standard C13. The slots are turned sideways.
• If your wall outlet is a regular 15-amp: You can still use this cable. The wall plug end is a NEMA 5-20P, but it includes a standard 15-amp pin layout option. Check your gear and outlet, or call us at 800-942-0220.

What's Different About This One?

Clear Beyond is hand-built in Bandon, Oregon. George Cardas started the company in 1987. He used to work as a phone-line engineer. He holds three U.S. patents on cable design. His daughter Angela runs the company today.

Clear Beyond uses three 10-gauge tin-plated copper wires. AWG means American Wire Gauge. A lower number means a thicker wire. 10 AWG is heavier than the 11.5 AWG used in Clear and Clear Reflection. Heavier wire carries more power without strain.

The wires are pure 99.9999% Cardas copper. Cardas makes its own copper. They draw the wire slowly in a special hydrogen atmosphere. This keeps the copper very pure. Other top audio brands use this same copper. So do science labs around the world.

Clear Beyond uses Cardas Matched Propagation. This is a patented method (US Patent 7,674,973). Cardas mixes strand sizes inside each wire. This lowers internal noise. The strand sizes follow the Golden Ratio (1:1.618). Both ideas come from George Cardas's patents.

Each of the three wires gets its own shield. Then a second shield wraps all three. That's more shielding than the cables below it in the line. A toroidal filter sits on the ground leg to block more noise from the wall.

Clear Beyond uses Cardas's own E-5 connectors. The C19 version comes with a 20-amp NEMA 5-20P wall plug and a 20-amp IEC C19 plug at the gear end. Both contacts are pure copper, plated with silver and then rhodium.

Where Does This Cable Belong in Your System?

The C19 version is built for high-current power amps. Use it on the gear that pulls the most current.

• Good fit: High-current solid-state and Class A amps, monoblocks, reference integrated amps with C19 inlets, and high-end power conditioners with a 20-amp inlet.

Length: Use the shortest cable that will reach. Measure the real path the cable will take, not a straight line. Add a foot of slack. Shorter is better.
