Clear Cygnus at 1.25 Meters, Straight DIN to RCA
This is Cardas Clear Cygnus tonearm cable at 1.25 meters, sold each, with a straight DIN at the tonearm and RCA plugs at the phono stage. It is the DIN configuration of the cable that brings Clear Beyond's air-tube suspension within reach.
Everything in a phono chain is amplification of what the cartridge produced, and what the cartridge produced is measured in fractions of a millivolt. The cable is the first thing that signal meets, and the last chance to lose it before any gain is applied.
Air-Tube Suspension, Borrowed From Clear Beyond
Fit and Materials
1.25 meters, straight DIN to RCA. It suits an arm whose base presents a DIN socket rather than captive leads. Check whether yours takes a straight or a right-angle DIN before ordering — the two plugs do not interchange.
The conductor package is Grade 1 99.9999% pure OFHC copper with an SPN clear coat, laid up Litz-fashion on a matched-propagation Kevlar core. Cardas scales the gauges to Golden Ratio proportions and arranges the layers in its Crossfield geometry, insulated in double-layered PTFE tape.
Around that sits the feature Cygnus borrows from Clear Beyond: anti-static LDPE air-tubes bound in carbon-impregnated PTFE tape, and an outer set of PTFE tubes scaled 1.618 times larger again, suspending the tinned-copper-and-magnet-wire shield clear of the conductors.
Who Is Clear Cygnus Best For?
- Your tonearm has a straight DIN socket — the plug this version carries
- You want to choose the cable rather than accept it — which is the point of a DIN socket
- You want Clear construction affordably — Cygnus is the economical route to that geometry
- Your phono stage is across the rack — 1.25 meters reaches most of them
- Your junction box presents RCAs instead — Cygnus is built RCA to RCA as well; see tonearm cables
What Length Do You Need?
Measure the route the cable will follow rather than the distance it crosses, and leave enough slack that it hangs in a loop. Terminations are fixed at manufacture, so establish what socket your arm presents before ordering.
Pairs Well With
What most owners fitting a tonearm cable shop next.
- Phono preamplifiers — the other end of this cable, and the bigger variable
- Phono cartridges — the signal source everything downstream is serving
- Cartridge alignment tools — geometry first; no cable fixes a misaligned cartridge
- Tonearm cables — the other lengths and terminations in the range
Frequently Asked Questions
How many do I need?
One. A turntable takes a single tonearm cable, and this is sold each.
Straight DIN or right-angle?
Different plugs, and neither adapts. Look at the socket at the base of your arm pillar and at what sits behind it — a dust cover or a plinth edge often decides which you need.
Can the terminations be changed later?
Not without re-terminating the cable, which undoes Cardas's own work. Order the configuration your arm and phono stage actually present.
What does the air-tube suspension achieve?
It keeps the shield away from the signal conductors rather than lying against them. The outer tubes are scaled 1.618 times larger than the inner ones — the Golden Ratio Cardas applies throughout its designs.
Do I still need the separate ground wire?
Yes. The cable carries the signal; the ground strap carries the chassis connection that keeps hum out. Connect it before deciding the cable is at fault.
