Reference Sound, Pocket Sized
Some products earn their reputation. The Chord Mojo 2 is one of the most awarded portable DACs ever made, and this Gen 2 revision makes it more practical than ever, adding a 4.4mm headphone output and USB-C charging while keeping the sound that built its name.
Unlike nearly every competitor, Chord doesn't use an off-the-shelf DAC chip. The Mojo 2 runs Chord's own custom FPGA design, a processor programmed from scratch for audio conversion. The measured results are remarkable for any DAC, let alone a portable: distortion of 0.0003%, a 125dB dynamic range, and a near-zero 0.06-ohm output impedance. It plays PCM up to 32-bit/768kHz and DSD256, and drives headphones from sensitive in-ears up to 800-ohm studio models, with 600mW into 30 ohms.
Each output also remembers its own volume and settings, so switching between headphones never brings a volume surprise.
EQ Without the Quality Loss
Most digital EQ trades away resolution. The Mojo 2's UHD DSP is different: a lossless, 104-bit processing system that adjusts four frequency bands, lower bass, mid bass, lower treble, and high treble, in 18 steps each, with no loss of detail. You can tune bright headphones down or add bass weight to lean ones, then store it. A crossfeed function blends the channels slightly, making headphone listening feel more like speakers in a room.
Controls run through Chord's signature polychromatic buttons, glowing spheres whose colors show volume, input, and EQ status. The case is CNC-milled aircraft-grade aluminum, made in England, and the whole unit weighs just 185 grams.
Battery life runs better than eight hours, and the Gen 2 revision's USB-C port now handles charging and audio data through a single cable.
What Reviewers Are Saying
Tim Hancock of AVForums scored this Gen 2 revision a perfect 10 out of 10 in a February 16, 2026 review, writing that it "is as sonically spectacular as it is versatile; it is equally adept on the move, on your desk or slotted into your hi-fi system" and that it "brings an intelligibility to your music which is deeply satisfying." What Hi-Fi awarded the Mojo 2 five stars for sound, praising its "benchmark transparency" and "lively, musical, open sound," noting "Chord has advanced the Mojo in pretty much every sonic area."
Who Is This DAC/Amp Best For?
- You want reference-grade sound in a pocket — Chord's custom FPGA design outperforms DACs several times its size and price.
- You own headphones with 4.4mm cables — this Gen 2 revision adds the 4.4mm output the original lacked.
- You want EQ that doesn't degrade the sound — the lossless UHD DSP is unique at this price.
- You'll use it at a desk and on the go — USB-C now charges and plays through one cable, and battery life tops eight hours.
- If you want wireless streaming built in, the Mojo 2 is wired-only — add Chord's Poly module or look at a Bluetooth-equipped DAC instead.
How Does It Connect to Your System?
Connect a phone, computer, or streamer to the USB-C input, or use the optical and 3.5mm coaxial inputs for CD transports and other digital sources. Headphones plug into the 4.4mm or 3.5mm output, each with its own volume memory. It can also feed a preamp or powered speakers as a fixed-level source, making it a serious small-system DAC, not just a travel companion.
Charging happens over the same USB-C port while music plays, and the FPGA-managed charging system protects long-term battery health.
Pairs Well With
Building your system? Here are some great companions for the Mojo 2:
- Headphones: From IEMs to 800-ohm studio models, it drives them all — see our Headphones.
- Cables: A quality USB or optical cable feeds it right — see our Interconnect Cables.
- Powered Speakers: Use it as a compact system DAC — see our Bookshelf Speakers.
Frequently Asked Questions
What's new in this Gen 2 revision?
A 4.4mm headphone output (replacing one 3.5mm jack), USB-C charging and data through one cable, and per-output volume memory. The sound is unchanged from the multi-award-winning original.
How powerful is it?
600mW into 30 ohms and 90mW into 300 ohms, with support for headphones up to 800 ohms.
Does it have Bluetooth?
No. The Mojo 2 is a wired DAC/amp. Chord's optional Poly module adds streaming and wireless playback.
What formats does it play?
PCM up to 32-bit/768kHz and DSD256.
How long does the battery last?
Better than eight hours, with FPGA-managed charging over USB-C.
Can I EQ my headphones with it?
Yes. The lossless UHD DSP adjusts four frequency bands in 18 steps each, plus a crossfeed function, with no loss of resolution.
