215 Grams of Machined Aluminum, With a Teflon Bush Where It Meets the Spindle
The Clearaudio Concept Clamp is sold each, one per turntable. It is a gravity weight: 215 grams of black anodized aluminum with a silver rim, 75 millimeters across and 20 millimeters tall, set down over the spindle to hold the record onto the platter.
A record only takes on the platter's character where the two are in contact. Near the label, where the disc is thickest and least willing to lie flat, a weight closes that contact across the whole clamping area — which is where the stylus is working hardest at the end of a side.
A Weight Sized for the Bearing, Not the Biggest Number
Fit, Load and Materials
The clamp weighs 215 grams, adding 0.47 pounds to the platter bearing. Clearaudio built it for the Concept, Innovation Compact and Innovation turntables, and it works on other decks with a standard spindle. It stands 20 millimeters tall and measures 75 millimeters across.
Inside the bore is a Teflon bush. It gives the clamp a low-friction seat on the spindle, so the weight settles square rather than binding on one side, and it keeps aluminum off the spindle itself.
The body is machined and anodized black with the rim left bright. It is a plain drop-on weight — there is no screw thread, nothing to tighten, and nothing to wear out.
Who Is the Concept Clamp Best For?
- You own a Clearaudio Concept, Innovation Compact or Innovation — this is the weight the turntable was designed around
- Your deck is unsprung and rigid — 0.47 pounds is a modest, well-judged load for a solid plinth and a proper bearing
- You want the record held without a mechanism — it drops on and lifts off, with no thread to wind
- You care how the rack looks — black anodized aluminum with a bright rim, machined to match Clearaudio's turntables
- You are looking for mass to press a dished record flat — 215 grams settles a record onto the mat but will not take out a pressing warp; the heavier stainless options are in record clamps and weights
How Do You Use It?
Put the record on the platter and let it settle. Hold the clamp level, line up the bore, and lower it over the spindle until the Teflon bush seats and the body rests on the label. Do not press it down or screw it against anything — the weight is doing the work. Lift it straight off before you turn the record over.
Pairs Well With
What most Concept Clamp owners shop next.
- Turntable mats — the weight can only press the record onto whatever is underneath it
- Record brushes — a dry sweep each side, with the record held flat
- Stylus force gauges — set tracking force properly and the rest of the setup follows
- Record cleaning machines — the step that makes the biggest difference to a used collection
Frequently Asked Questions
How many do I need?
One. The Concept Clamp is sold each and a turntable takes a single weight.
Will it work on a turntable that is not a Clearaudio?
Yes, on any deck with a standard smooth spindle and a bearing happy to carry another 0.47 pounds. Clearaudio designed it for the Concept and Innovation series, but the fitment is not exclusive to them.
What is the Teflon bush for?
It lines the bore where the clamp meets the spindle. The low-friction seat lets the weight settle square on the record instead of binding against the spindle, and it keeps metal off metal.
Will my dust cover still close?
Measure first. The clamp adds 20 millimeters above the record surface, and a hinged cover that already sits close to the platter may catch on it. Covers that clear a tonearm's headshell usually clear this.
