The Clearaudio Standard Silent Belt is sold each, one belt per turntable. This is the 2 millimeter version. Like the thin one it is molded in silicone as a continuous loop, with no seam or join, at 304 millimeters — 12 inches — in diameter.

Everything a belt does depends on being the same all the way round. A join is a thick spot, and a thick spot reaching the pulley once per turn is a speed error you can measure. Molding the loop in one piece removes it rather than reducing it.

If you are not certain which your deck takes, measure the belt coming off. This one is 2 millimeters; the Thin Silent Belt is 1 millimeter at the same diameter. Fitting the wrong thickness changes how the belt sits on the pulley.

How Do You Fit It?

Lift the platter off — on most decks it lifts straight up, sometimes with a sub-platter under it. Slip the old belt off the motor pulley and the sub-platter, and wipe both with a clean, dry cloth. Loop the new belt around the sub-platter, then over the pulley, keeping it flat and untwisted. Refit the platter and spin it by hand before switching on.
