Big-Theater Sound for Movies, Games and Music, Without the Complicated Setup
Your TV, game console, streaming box and music all deserve better sound than TV speakers can give. A good AV receiver is the hub that brings them together and drives a full set of surround speakers. Denon's goal with this one is "performance without complexity."
The Denon AVR-X2900H is a 7.2-channel receiver with 95 watts per channel, Dolby Atmos and DTS:X 3D sound, three 8K HDMI inputs, and HEOS whole-home streaming. Audyssey room correction is included, with an optional upgrade to Dirac Live.
95 Watts per Channel, Backed by Denon's 70% Guarantee
The AVR-X2900H is rated at 95 watts per channel (8 ohms, 20 Hz–20 kHz, 0.08%, two channels driven). Denon says its receivers deliver over 70% of rated output to up to five channels at the same time, so action scenes keep their punch when every speaker is working.
Dolby Atmos and DTS:X in Your Room
Dolby Atmos and DTS:X place sound around and above you. Run the seven channels as a 7.2 surround system or a 5.2.2 Dolby Atmos system with two height speakers. DTS Neural:X can spread standard soundtracks across all your speakers.
8K Video and Gaming Features
Six HDMI inputs, three of them 8K, handle your TV box, consoles and streamer. The receiver supports 8K pass-through and upscales 4K content to 8K. It supports Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HLG and Dynamic HDR, plus HDCP 2.3.
For gaming, Denon lists 4K/120Hz support, Variable Refresh Rate, Auto Low Latency Mode and AMD FreeSync. An eARC HDMI output sends Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby Atmos back from your TV's own apps.
Room Correction That Fits Your Space
Every room changes how speakers sound. Audyssey MultEQ XT uses the included microphone to measure your room and tune the system to it. Dynamic EQ and Dynamic Volume keep sound full and balanced at lower volumes. For more control, the receiver supports an optional upgrade to Dirac Live Room Correction.
Whole-Home Sound with HEOS
HEOS is built in. Stream music, including directly from your Spotify account, and control it from the HEOS app. The receiver can act as the first zone of a multiroom HEOS system, and you can add Denon Home speakers in other rooms.
What It Needs in Your System
The AVR-X2900H has seven built-in amplifier channels and two subwoofer outputs. Plan for up to seven speakers plus one or two powered subwoofers. Speaker terminals can also be assigned to bi-amp your front speakers or to power a second zone.
It is 17.1 inches wide, 13.0 inches deep and 6.6 inches tall without the antennas, and weighs 21.4 pounds. With the antennas raised, it stands 9.3 inches tall, so check your shelf height.
Who Is This Receiver Best For?
- You are building a 5.2.2 Atmos or 7.2 surround system — seven amplified channels cover either layout
- You game on a current console or PC — 4K/120Hz, VRR, ALLM and AMD FreeSync are supported
- You have an 8K TV, or plan to — three 8K inputs and 4K-to-8K upscaling
- You want music in more than one room — HEOS links the receiver with Denon Home speakers
- You still play records — a moving magnet phono input is built in
- You need more than seven speakers or 9.4 channels — look at the larger Denon AVR-X3900H
How Does It Connect to Your System?
Connect your speakers to the speaker terminals and your subwoofers to the subwoofer outputs. Plug your sources into the HDMI inputs, using the 8K inputs for your highest-resolution devices. Then connect the eARC HDMI output to your TV's eARC port.
Connect the receiver to your network to use HEOS. Place the included microphone at your listening position and run Audyssey to tune the system to your room.
Pairs Well With
A receiver is the center of a home theater. These categories complete it.
- Speakers — front, center, surround and height speakers for your layout
- Subwoofers — one or two, using the twin subwoofer outputs
- Speaker Cables — to connect each speaker to the receiver
- Turntables — plug a moving magnet turntable straight into the phono input
