Digital conversion pairs AKM's AK4191EQ digital modulator with the AK4499EX DAC in a separated digital-and-analog design, supporting native DSD512 and PCM up to 32-bit/768kHz. EverSolo's own AuralEngine processor replaces the previous generation's third-party USB audio chip, managing high-resolution USB audio scheduling. The fully balanced analog preamp uses a precision R-2R resistor-ladder volume control rather than conventional digital attenuation, providing up to 10dB of analog gain. Combined with balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA outputs, this lets the DMP-A8 Gen 2 function as the volume-controlling heart of a system, feeding a power amplifier or active speakers directly.

Room Correction and Digital Signal Processing

Room Correction Pro measures and compensates for your room's acoustics on PCM sources up to 192kHz; higher-rate PCM and DSD pass through directly to the DAC without DSP applied. Additional onboard tools include a full parametric EQ, high-pass and low-pass filters, loudness compensation, a dynamic-range compressor, and left/right channel delay, all adjustable from the 8.6-inch touchscreen or companion app.

Extensive Networking and Storage

Beyond Gigabit Ethernet and Wi-Fi 6, the DMP-A8 Gen 2 adds an SFP fiber networking port (fiber module sold separately) for the lowest-noise network connection into your system. A 64GB internal drive plus an M.2 NVMe slot (supporting drives up to 8TB) let you store a local library directly in the unit, and EverSolo states the system can analyze and organize a library of roughly 200,000 tracks in about two hours.

Do I need a separate preamplifier?

No. The DMP-A8 Gen 2 has a fully balanced analog preamp with R-2R volume control built in, so it can connect directly to a power amplifier or active speakers.

How is the Gen 2 different from the original DMP-A8?

The Gen 2 keeps the same core AKM DAC pairing but replaces the USB audio processor with EverSolo's own AuralEngine, adds a larger 8.6-inch touchscreen, upgrades to a 64-bit octa-core processor with 8GB of RAM, and adds SFP fiber networking, AES/EBU and subwoofer outputs, and HDMI eARC. The original DMP-A8 has been discontinued.

Should I get the standard Gen 2 or the Master Edition?

Both share the same DAC, processor, and measured performance. The Master Edition adds an OCXO master clock, an external 10MHz clock input for system-wide synchronization, and a built-in CD drive, at a higher price. If you don't need a built-in CD drive or an external clock input, the standard Gen 2 offers the same core sound quality for less.

Can I expand the internal storage?
