The Second Generation Rebuilt Everything Around the DAC
The EverSolo DMP-A8 Gen 2 is a network streamer, a DAC and a fully balanced preamplifier in one box. It follows the original DMP-A8. The AKM converter pairing carries over, but the platform around it is new.
An AK4191EQ modulator feeds an AK4499EX converter. Together they decode PCM to 768kHz/32-bit and native DSD512. EverSolo's own AuralEngine processor replaces the off-the-shelf USB chip Gen 1 used. A pair of ultra-low phase-noise clocks handle timing.
A Bigger Screen and the Memory to Drive It
The touchscreen grows to 8.6 inches and runs a redesigned interface with album art, VU meters and spectrum displays. Behind it sit 8GB of DDR5 and 64GB of eMMC. An M.2 2280 NVMe slot takes an SSD for local storage.
This is the standard Gen 2, not the Master Edition. The Master adds a CD transport and a higher-precision clock in a taller chassis. The standard model keeps the traditional crystal clocks and the more compact case.
The Connections Are Where This Generation Moved
Gen 2 adds an AES/EBU balanced digital output and an SFP fiber network port. A dedicated subwoofer output is new. HDMI eARC replaces the first generation's ARC-only socket. The SFP module itself is bought separately.
Balanced XLR and single-ended RCA preamp outputs deliver 4.2V and 2.1V. The preamplifier stage offers up to 10dB of gain, so it can feed a power amplifier or active speakers directly. Analog XLR and RCA inputs are fitted too.
Set the Crossover and Let the Subwoofer Do Its Job
The subwoofer output has an adjustable crossover, 40 to 500Hz. Room correction runs from the touchscreen or the EverSolo app. You get target curves and correction filters. Bluetooth 5.4 uses a Qualcomm QCC3095 receiver, with SBC and AAC.
The measured numbers are tight. Distortion sits below 0.00008 percent on XLR. RCA comes in below 0.000086 percent. Both work out near -121dB. Dynamic range and signal-to-noise beat 129dB balanced and 127dB unbalanced. Crosstalk tops 133dB. Response holds 20Hz to 20kHz within 0.25dB.
Who Is This Streamer Best For?
- You want one box instead of three — streamer, DAC and preamplifier share a chassis, so two interconnect pairs and two power cords leave your system and there is one remote to find.
- You stream from more than one lossless service — TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, Spotify Connect and DLNA are built in, so you keep your existing subscriptions and control playback from the app you already use.
- You are adding a subwoofer to a two-channel system — a dedicated sub output with a 40 to 500Hz crossover is fitted, so the bass integrates without buying an outboard crossover or bass management box.
- You are moving up from the first generation — the screen, memory and clocking are all new, and AES/EBU, SFP fiber and HDMI eARC are added, so a Gen 1 owner gains outputs rather than just a faster interface.
- You will listen through speakers, not headphones — the A8 Gen 2 has no headphone jack — every analog output is line level. Add one of our headphone amplifiers on the XLR or RCA outputs and the AKM converter still feeds it, so headphones and speakers share the same DAC.
How Does It Connect to Your System?
Join your network over gigabit Ethernet or dual-band Wi-Fi. The SFP fiber port is there for an isolated optical run, module bought separately. Trigger in and out switch a power amplifier along with the streamer.
Run the balanced XLR or single-ended RCA outputs straight into a power amplifier or active speakers. A television connects on HDMI eARC. A CD transport takes coaxial or optical, and a computer takes USB-B. AES/EBU, coaxial, optical and USB outputs feed an external DAC.
Pairs Well With
Building a system around the DMP-A8 Gen 2? Start here:
- Power Amplifier: The preamp stage drives one directly — browse Amplifiers.
- Subwoofer: The dedicated output and 40–500Hz crossover are already fitted — see our Subwoofers.
- Interconnects: Balanced or single-ended, both output pairs need cable — see Interconnect Cables.
- Headphone Amplifier: The one job this box leaves to another — see Headphone Amplifiers.
Frequently Asked Questions
What comes in the box?
A power cable, a remote control and the user manual. The SFP fiber module and any M.2 SSD are separate purchases.
How is this different from the Master Edition?
The Master Edition adds a CD transport and a higher-precision clock and PLL system in a taller chassis. The standard Gen 2 keeps the traditional crystal clocks and a more compact case.
What formats and sample rates does it handle?
Native DSD512 and PCM up to 768kHz/32-bit. File support covers DSD, MP3, APE, WAV, FLAC, AIF, AIFF, AAC, NRG and CUE.
Which streaming services are built in?
TIDAL Connect, Spotify Connect, Qobuz Connect and DLNA for casting, plus TIDAL, Qobuz, HIGHRESAUDIO and Apple Music as onboard services.
Can it act as my preamplifier?
Yes. Balanced XLR and single-ended RCA outputs carry up to 10dB of gain and feed a power amplifier or active speakers directly.
What Bluetooth does it support?
Bluetooth 5.4 through a Qualcomm QCC3095 receiver, with the SBC and AAC codecs.
