Your Whole Front End, Down to the Room Correction
The EverSolo DMP-A8 is a network streamer, a DAC, and a full analog preamp built into one aluminum chassis, available in black or silver. It streams Tidal, Qobuz, and Amazon Music, reads your local library off an internal drive or a network share, and feeds your amp a clean, adjustable signal. A 6-inch color touchscreen up front shows album art, VU meters, and spectrum displays, and the EverSolo Control app mirrors all of it on your phone.
What sets the A8 apart is the onboard DSP. A parametric EQ, room correction, loudness control, and channel delay all live in the app, so you can tune the sound to your room without adding another box. Add an internal SSD and it plays and rips CDs too, through a connected USB drive.
A Preamp Built Around AKM's Flagship DACs
Inside, an AK4191EQ paired with an AK4499EX handles the conversion, with an XMOS XU316 processor managing digital input. The analog stage is a fully balanced volume network built from precision resistors and relays, so turning the knob doesn't add noise or distortion the way a cheaper chip-based volume control can.
The numbers show the payoff. The XLR outputs measure better than 128dB for signal-to-noise and dynamic range, with THD+N below 0.000094% (−120dB). RCA measures better than 125dB. Frequency response is 20Hz–20kHz, ±0.25dB. Playback covers native DSD512 and PCM up to 768kHz/32-bit, and the preamp stage adds up to 10dB of analog gain for lower-output sources.
What Reviewers Are Saying
John Grandberg reviewed the DMP-A8 for Darko.Audio on August 27, 2024, and came away impressed with its balance: "The DMP-A8 did what a high-quality, well-rounded digital source should do – reproduce music with an even hand." He summed up the value case directly: "the slick UI, generous feature set, broad connectivity, and powerful onboard DSP all come in at a price point that feels reasonable by modern hi-fi standards."
Who Is This Streamer Best For?
- Anyone building a source-plus-preamp around one box. The balanced preamp stage means it can run straight into a power amp, no separate preamp needed.
- Listeners dealing with a tricky room. The built-in parametric EQ and room correction handle problems that would otherwise take a dedicated DSP unit.
- People with a growing digital library. The internal M.2 SSD slot, network shares, and USB drives all show up in one library view.
- Roon and Tidal Connect users. Both are supported natively, so control from your phone or laptop is one tap away.
- Not the right fit if you want headphone listening from the same box. There's no headphone output here, so pair it with a separate headphone amp if that matters to you.
How Does It Connect to Your System?
Balanced XLR outputs put out 4.2V and RCA outputs put out 2.1V, both from the same volume-controlled preamp stage, so you can run either straight into a power amp. Wired Ethernet or dual-band Wi-Fi handles the network side. Inputs include USB-B for a computer, dual optical and dual coaxial for other digital sources, HDMI ARC for your TV, and Bluetooth 5.0 with aptX HD and LDAC.
If you'd rather feed an external DAC, the USB and IIS outputs pass DSD512 and PCM 768kHz/32-bit, with coaxial and optical as backups. A 12V trigger can power your amp on and off along with the streamer.
Pairs Well With
Building your system? Here are some great companions for the EverSolo DMP-A8:
- Bookshelf speakers for a compact two-channel system
- Floorstanding speakers if you're going straight to a power amp
- Interconnect cables in balanced XLR or single-ended RCA
- Power cables for a cleaner supply
- Audio racks to keep the touchscreen at eye level
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I still need a separate preamp?
No. The DMP-A8's volume-controlled XLR and RCA outputs are built to feed a power amp directly, so it replaces that box.
What does the room correction actually adjust?
The app-based DSP covers a parametric EQ, high- and low-pass filters, loudness control, and channel delay, all applied before the signal reaches your amp.
How much local storage can it hold?
The M.2 slot takes a 2280-format NVMe PCIe 3.0 SSD up to 4TB. The drive isn't included.
Which streaming services and protocols does it support?
Tidal, Qobuz, Amazon Music, and HIGHRESAUDIO are built in, along with Tidal Connect, Roon Ready, DLNA, UPnP, and WebDAV.
Can it play and rip CDs?
Yes, with a USB CD drive connected. You can play a disc directly or rip it to the internal SSD or a USB drive.
Is there a headphone output?
No. The A8 is built around its preamp outputs, not headphone listening, so plan on a separate headphone amp if you need one.
