Focal's Slimmest Floorstanding Tower Yet
The Focal Theva N°2 is a 3-way floorstanding speaker with a 1-inch Al/Mg inverted-dome TNF tweeter over a 5-inch Slatefiber midrange and two 5-inch Slatefiber woofers. Five-inch drivers in a home floorstander are a first for Focal, letting the cabinet stay unusually slim.
The cabinet stands 36.6 inches tall and 7.5 inches wide, and each speaker weighs 37.5 pounds with its grille. Sensitivity is 90 dB into a nominal 8 ohms, and Focal recommends 40 to 200 watts of amplifier power.
Crossover points sit at 280 Hz and 2,900 Hz, keeping each 5-inch driver working in its comfort zone. A rear-firing bass-reflex port and a single pair of binding posts round out a cabinet built for a tilted, time-aligned stand.
Where the Slim Cabinet Earns Its Keep
Two 5-Inch Woofers, One Job Each
Two 5-inch Slatefiber woofers, Focal's cone made of recycled carbon fiber sandwiched between thermoplastic polymer skins, share the bass load that a single larger driver would otherwise carry alone in a slimmer cabinet. A dedicated 5-inch Slatefiber midrange sits above them, crossing over at 280 Hz so it only handles vocals and instruments.
The 1-inch Al/Mg inverted-dome TNF tweeter crosses over at 2,900 Hz. A Poron foam surround, borrowed from Focal's flagship Utopia tweeter, keeps distortion down at the top of the audible range.
The Numbers, and What They Ask of Your Amplifier
Focal quotes a frequency range of 53 Hz to 28 kHz within 3 dB, extending to 44 Hz at -6 dB. Nominal impedance is 8 ohms, dipping to 2.9 ohms minimum, and Focal recommends 40 to 200 watts of amplifier power.
The rear-firing bass-reflex port is flared at both ends to quiet turbulence at higher volumes. The single pair of binding posts accepts banana plugs, spades, or bare wire; there is no bi-wire option on this model.
What Reviewers Are Saying
Matt Bonaccio, SoundStage! Hi-Fi, measured the Theva N°2 and wrote that "fans of the Focal 'house sound' and aesthetic won't be disappointed," whether the focus is on sound or design.
Ed Selley, AVForums, scored it 9 out of 10, praising a speaker that "combines impressive depth and scale with commendable agility" alongside "excellent tonal realism."
Selley's one reservation: the N°2 needs "a reasonable amount of power to truly shine," and must be used with its included tilted plinth rather than sitting flat on the floor.
Who Is This Floorstanding Speaker Best For?
- You want a genuine floorstander in an unusually slim cabinet — 5-inch drivers throughout, a first for a Focal home tower, keep the footprint compact
- You're new to Focal's house sound at the most accessible price in the tower lineup — the same TNF tweeter and Slatefiber cones used across the Theva line, in Focal's smallest floorstanding cabinet
- Your amplifier is modest to moderate — 90 dB sensitivity and a 40 to 200 watt window mean a quality integrated amplifier is enough, though AVForums found it rewards a bit more power
- You want one speaker per cabinet, priced and shipped that way — the N°2 is sold each, so order two for a stereo pair
- You want cinema-depth bass from the towers alone — the N°2 is rated to 44 Hz at -6 dB, which covers most music comfortably. For the lowest octave in a home theater, add one of our subwoofers and let the towers do what they do best
How Does It Connect to Your System?
Attach the included tilted plinth before positioning the speakers; Focal designs the angle to time-align the drivers with your ears, so the plinth isn't optional. Fit the included spikes for carpet or the rubber bumpers for a hard floor. Each cabinet has a single pair of binding posts for banana plugs, spades, or bare wire.
Give the drivers time to settle; Slatefiber cones can take some hours of playback before they loosen up fully.
Two cables, two speakers, and you are listening.
Pairs Well With
What finishes the system around a pair of Theva N°2:
- Integrated amplifiers — 40 to 200 watts into 8 ohms is the window Focal gives
- Stereo amplifiers — a separate power amp if you want more headroom
- Speaker cables — single-wire runs, since this model has no bi-wire terminal
- Speaker isolation feet — an alternative to the included spikes on a wood or tile floor
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the price for one speaker or a pair?
One. The N°2 is sold each, so order two for a stereo pair, or one to match an existing speaker.
What comes in the box?
The speaker, a tilted plinth/stand, spikes and rubber bumpers, and a magnetic grille.
What amplifier do I need?
Focal recommends 40 to 200 watts into 8 ohms. Sensitivity is 90 dB, so a quality integrated amplifier is enough to drive it well, though it rewards a bit more power.
Can I bi-wire the N°2?
Each cabinet has a single pair of binding posts; Focal does not offer a bi-wire terminal on this model.
Do I have to use the plinth?
Yes. The plinth angles the cabinet back for Time Alignment, and reviewers note the speaker is designed to be used with it rather than sitting flat.
What finishes are available?
Black High Gloss, Dark Wood, and Light Wood.
