GoldenEar SuperCenter Reference Center Channel Speaker — Gloss Black
What It Does in Your System
The Speaker That Carries the Dialogue
In a movie, most of what you actually listen to comes from the center channel. Every line of dialogue, most of the score, and a large share of the effects all land there. If the center is the weak link, the whole system sounds weak.
The SuperCenter Reference sits at the top of GoldenEar's center channel range. It is built to partner large Triton systems, and it is voiced to match them so a sound moving from a front speaker to the center does not change character on the way across.
A Reference Folded Ribbon Tweeter Between Four Drivers
At the center sits GoldenEar's High-Gauss Reference HVFR tweeter. A folded ribbon works differently from a dome — the pleated diaphragm squeezes air out rather than pushing it, which moves air faster and lets it respond to fine detail with less effort.
Around it are four 5¼-inch bass and midrange drivers using the focused-field magnet structure developed for the Triton Reference. Two carry multi-vaned phase plugs, which smooth the way sound leaves the cone. All four sit in cast baskets for rigidity.
Three Passive Radiators on Top
A passive radiator is a driver with no motor. Air pressure inside the cabinet moves it, and it extends the bass in a way a small sealed box cannot manage on its own.
This one has three, all mounted on top: two measuring 6¾ by 8 inches, and one larger 7 by 10 inch in the middle. They reach down to 33Hz, which is unusual for a center channel, and they load the main drivers so the whole speaker plays with more authority. Because they produce a low-frequency pressure wave rather than a directional beam, they need only an inch or two of clearance above them.
Is This Right for You?
Three things to confirm before ordering:
- Measure your space — it is 35 inches wide. That is a genuinely large center channel. Check the shelf under your screen, or the space between your front speakers, before anything else.
- Leave clearance above it. The passive radiators fire upward. They only need an inch or two, so a cabinet is fine — but push the speaker to the front of the opening, and do not stack anything on top.
- Check your receiver at 4 ohms. Nominal impedance is 4 ohms. Sensitivity is a healthy 91dB so it does not need enormous power, but some budget receivers are uncomfortable with 4-ohm loads. GoldenEar recommends 20 to 350 watts.
Setup & Installation
Place it as close to screen height as you can, directly below or above the display, and aim it at the seating position. If it sits low in a cabinet, tilting it upward toward ear height helps dialogue clarity more than almost anything else you can do.
Position the front edge flush with the front of any shelf or opening rather than recessed. Connect it to the center channel output on your receiver or processor, then run the room calibration so levels and distance are set correctly against your other speakers.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I still need a subwoofer?
Yes, for a full home theater. The SuperCenter Reference reaches lower than most center channels at 33Hz, which means it handles its own range without strain — but a subwoofer is still what delivers the bottom octave in a movie soundtrack.
Can I put it inside a cabinet?
Yes, provided there is an inch or two of clear space above the passive radiators. Push the speaker forward so its front edge is flush with the front of the opening rather than set back inside it.
Does it have to be used with GoldenEar speakers?
No, but it is voiced to match the Triton and Aon families. A well-matched center makes sounds moving across the front of the room hold together. Pairing it with a different brand can work, though it takes more careful setup.
