"Diminutive Beast" of a Sub "Is the Real Deal"
For unstoppable movie excitement, put the maximum low bass performance in the minimum amount of floor space with the GoldenEar SuperSub XXL powered subwoofer.
The compact SuperSub XXL strikes the perfect balance between size and capability. Housed within the gorgeous piano-gloss black enclosure are two horizontally-opposed 12" ultra-long-throw active drivers and two vertically-opposed 15" x 13" planar back-wave-driven radiators, driven by a 1600 watt Class D Digital amplifier. And the enclosure is just 19.75" wide, 15.9" deep, and 17.6" high.
Award-Winning Performance
"Sandy Gross, the founder of GoldenEar, has crammed an astounding amount of technology into this fairly diminutive subwoofer, including a 1600W switching amplifier that is controlled by a 56-bit DSP device operating at 192kHz," notes The Absolute Sound magazine, February 10, 2026, which honored the XXL with an Editors' Choice Award.
"Add two 12″ long-throw active drivers and two infrasonic drivers and you have a recipe for a powerful, bone-crushing sub. No matter the source material – rock, pop, or classical – the XXL will deliver a deep and tuneful foundation that helps create an airier and wider soundstage."
Dual-Plane, Dynamic Inertial-Balancing Design
The dual-plane, patented, dynamic inertial-balancing design preserves and focuses all the energy produced by the transducers. This approach more effectively moves the air in the room instead of wasting energy moving the box. It also enables you to hear all the fine subtle details in your recordings.
The end result is state-of-the-art, best subwoofer performance that, not only "rocks the house," as Big Picture Big Sound's Chris Boylan raved, but also is "strong, pure and controlled," as Sound&Vision magazine's Mark Fleischman wrote.
"This, the latest brainchild from industry veteran Sandy Gross, is the real deal. I must admit to shaking my head at what Gross manages to extract from small packages; somehow he and his engineering team successfully defy the maxim that size matters," reports Jacob Heilbrun, The Absolute Sound magazine, August 3, 2016. "The XXL is a diminutive beast that offers a lot of performance for just about any stereo system."
"Go for It and Have the Time of Your Audio Life!"
"The GoldenEar SuperSub XXL is a well crafted, attractive, and potent piece of low level, percussive delivery hardware. It is thoughtfully designed, solidly built and leverages GoldenEar's expertise and technology in a novel way to deliver outstanding bass performance from a modestly sized enclosure," reports Carlo Lo Raso, Secrets of Home Theater and High Fidelity, October 7, 2015.
"GoldenEar Technology has really done it right with their SuperSub XXL. Go for it and have the time of your audio life!" suggests Gregory Petan, Positive Feedback magazine, September 26, 2016.
Ultra-High Performance
GoldenEar's SuperSub Series consists of ultra-high performance compact subwoofers which incorporate many recently developed unique and advanced technologies and components. The goal was to create beautifully styled, finely finished, reasonably sized subwoofers that could generate very low frequency pressure waves of extremely high amplitude, while delivering accurate and precise low frequency performance that is both highly impactful and extremely musical.
To achieve this, GoldenEar incorporated a unique, patented 360-degree dual-plane inertially-balanced driver and sub-bass radiator topology, combined with a very advanced electronics package. With two active drivers separated horizontally in space, as well as two passive radiators separated vertically, the driver-to-room coupling is distributed much more smoothly, for in-room bass performance that can't typically be achieved with a single subwoofer.
Powerful Electronics Package
The electronics package that drives the fully balanced array is a 1600-watt (for SuperSub XXL) or 1400-watt (for SuperSub X) Class D digital amplifier based on the design originally developed for the GoldenEar Triton One tower. Advanced features include discrete multi-band limiting, phase perfect equalization, fully balanced and advanced reconstruction filters, and a strong focus on keeping latency to an absolute minimum.
Sonically, the result is rock-solid bass response that is both exceptionally fast and tuneful for music and extraordinarily deep and powerful for effortlessly reproducing the most extreme movie sound effects.
"The SuperSub XXL provides a great balance of reasonable size, high fidelity, and sheer power. When your needs tilt toward a subwoofer that's comparatively compact while possessing bass response that does justice to home cinema as well as hi-fi audio, the GoldenEar SuperSub XXL is well worth auditioning," concludes longtime reviewer imagic, avsforum.com, July 19, 2016.
