The iFi ZEN CAN 3 is a dedicated desktop headphone amplifier. It’s purely analog—no digital processing, no DAC built in. It takes an analog signal from your DAC and amplifies it with Class A discrete circuitry borrowed from iFi’s flagship iCAN Phantom (a £3,749 amplifier). How Does It Connect?
The ZEN CAN 3 is a pure analog amplifier—it does not have a built-in DAC. You’ll need a separate DAC or a source with analog outputs to feed it. On the back, you’ll find three analog inputs: a stereo RCA pair (for connecting most DACs), a 3.5mm single-ended input (for portable sources), and a 4.4mm balanced input (for DACs with balanced outputs, like the iFi ZEN DAC 3).
There’s also a 4.4mm balanced pre-out on the back, which lets you use the ZEN CAN 3 as a preamp to feed powered speakers or another amplifier.
