The iFi ZEN DAC 3 sits between your computer and everything else. A single USB-C cable carries the music in, and the Burr-Brown converter inside takes over from whatever chip your laptop was using. Headphones plug into the front, an amplifier connects at the back.

Both headphone jacks are here. The 4.4mm balanced output gives more than 300mW into 32 ohms, and 390mW into 64 ohms. The 6.35mm single-ended jack manages 210mW into 32 ohms. A 3.5-to-6.35mm adapter is in the box, so small headphones connect on day one.

Two Switches You Will Actually Use

PowerMatch adjusts gain to suit sensitive earphones or hungry over-ears. XBass+ adds low end through an analog circuit rather than software, so it works whatever you are playing from. Both are front-panel switches you can leave alone or reach for.

Formats are not a limit here. PCM runs to 768kHz, DSD to DSD512, and MQA decodes on board. Whatever your library holds, or whatever tier your subscription serves up, it arrives without being resampled on the way in.

Where the Numbers Land

Signal-to-noise measures 113dBA or better on the line section and 109dBA on the headphone section. Output impedance at the headphone jacks stays at or below 1 ohm, which keeps sensitive earphones from being colored by the amplifier. Frequency response runs 5Hz to 90kHz within 3dB.

The Back Panel Decides Who Controls Volume

A switch sets the RCA outputs to variable or fixed. Variable puts the front knob in charge, which suits active speakers. Fixed hands volume to your integrated amplifier. Power arrives over the same USB-C cable, or from a 5V DC supply if your computer's port is noisy.
