PBJ Headphone Extension Uses Kimber's Reference-Level Conductor Geometry
A headphone cable must physically match both ends of the chain: the connector on your headphones and the connector on your amplifier or DAC. Getting either wrong means the cable simply will not plug in, which is why the fit matters as much as the build quality.
Kimber's PBJ Headphone Extension incorporates technologies found in Kimber's most costly reference models, built around a proven tri-braid Varistrand conductor geometry, terminated in Switchcraft 1/4" male and female phono plugs.
Tri-Braid Varistrand Conductor Geometry
Kimber says the tri-braid Varistrand geometry reduces interaction between signal and return while shutting out RF interference, a conductor arrangement the company also uses across its analog interconnect and speaker cable lines.
Hyper-Pure Copper, Teflon Dielectric, Switchcraft Plugs
PBJ uses hyper-pure copper conductors insulated with pressure-extruded Teflon dielectric for pristine signal transmission end to end, all terminated in genuine Switchcraft 1/4" male and female phono plugs at each connector.
The Connectors, Explained
This cable terminates in genuine Switchcraft 1/4" (6.35mm) male and female phono plugs, extending any headphone cable that already ends in a standard 1/4" male plug at its amplifier end.
Who Is This Headphone Cable Best For?
- Your headphone cable is too short to reach comfortably from your listening position — this extension adds reach without replacing your existing headphone cable
- You want Kimber's Varistrand conductor geometry, shared with its reference interconnect and speaker cables — PBJ carries that same technology down into a headphone extension
- Your existing headphone cable ends in a standard 1/4" plug — Switchcraft's female jack accepts any 1/4" cable, regardless of which headphone it's built for
- You want Switchcraft-brand plugs specifically rather than a generic connector — Kimber names Switchcraft by brand for both the male and female ends
- Your headphone cable ends in something other than a 1/4" plug — check the connector on your existing cable before ordering; this extension only accepts a 1/4" male plug
How Does It Connect to Your System?
Plug your existing headphone cable's 1/4" male plug into this extension's Switchcraft female jack, and the extension's own Switchcraft male plug into the headphone output on your amplifier or DAC.
Then power up the system as usual. Other and longer lengths available. Call for prices.
Pairs Well With
A headphone cable is one link between your headphones and an amplifier or DAC. It usually joins these categories.
- Headphone Amplifiers — the amp end of this cable plugs directly into one
- Headphones — the cable only helps once it's matched to the right pair
- Digital-to-Analog Converters — many desktop DACs include a headphone output this cable can feed
- Headphone Accessories — stands, cases and other gear for the same headphone this cable serves
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Varistrand geometry?
Kimber's own name for this tri-braid conductor arrangement. It also appears in Kimber's reference-level analog interconnects and speaker cables, which is the pedigree Kimber points to when describing PBJ as carrying technology down from its costlier models.
What happens if I order the wrong connector for my headphones?
It simply won't plug in. Headphone connectors aren't interchangeable the way many amplifier connectors are, so check your headphones' own connector, and the amp-end plug your amplifier or DAC uses, before ordering.
Why Teflon dielectric?
Kimber says pressure-extruded Teflon dielectric is used for pristine signal transmission around the hyper-pure copper conductors.
Is there a step up?
Not in the Kimber Kable headphone extension line we carry. PBJ is the top of that range. If you want to go further, call us and we will talk through the whole chain.
