TAK Ag at One Meter — Silver Conductors, RCA Terminated
This is Kimber Kable's TAK Ag tonearm cable at one meter, sold each, terminated with RCA connectors at both ends. Ag is silver: this is the silver-conductor version of Kimber's phono cable, above the copper TAK Cu in the range.
Kimber's argument for a tonearm cable is that a turntable is where an audiophile's commitment shows, and the cable off the back of one is carrying a signal measured in fractions of a millivolt. Everything downstream amplifies whatever survives the journey.
OCQ/2 Braiding and Proprietary Shielding
Fit and Materials
One meter, RCA to RCA. It suits a junction box with RCA sockets and a phono stage close by. Kimber terminates TAK Ag with high-quality RCA-type connectors, fixed at manufacture.
Kimber's OCQ/2 braid — Orthogonal GyroQuadratic, two channel — is the company's answer to interference. Braiding the conductors so they cross at right angles means induced noise arrives on both sides of the pair equally and cancels, which is why Kimber can claim it virtually eliminates electromagnetic and radio interference along with crosstalk.
Beyond the braid, Kimber uses a proprietary shielding material that it says drastically reduces low-frequency hum. On a phono cable that matters more than on any other interconnect: the signal is the smallest in the system and hum is its constant companion.
Who Is This Cable Best For?
- You want silver rather than copper — Ag is the silver-conductor TAK, above TAK Cu in the range
- Your phono stage sits close to the deck — one meter is a short, direct run
- Your junction box presents RCA sockets — RCA at both ends here
- Hum has been the problem — Kimber's proprietary shielding is aimed squarely at low-frequency hum
- You would rather have copper — TAK Cu is the copper version; see tonearm cables
What Length Do You Need?
Measure the path the cable will take rather than the gap it crosses, and allow enough slack that it hangs rather than pulls. Terminations are fixed, so check what your arm presents before ordering.
Pairs Well With
What most owners fitting a tonearm cable shop next.
- Phono preamplifiers — the other end of this cable, and the bigger variable
- Phono cartridges — the signal source everything downstream is serving
- Cartridge alignment tools — geometry first; no cable fixes a misaligned cartridge
- Tonearm cables — the other lengths and terminations in the range
Frequently Asked Questions
How many do I need?
One. A turntable takes a single tonearm cable, and this is sold each.
What does Ag mean?
Silver. TAK Ag uses silver conductors where TAK Cu uses hyper-pure copper. They are different cables at different prices, not two finishes of one.
Do I still need the ground wire?
Yes. A tonearm cable carries the signal; the separate ground strap carries the chassis connection that keeps hum out. Connect it before deciding anything is wrong with the cable.
What does OCQ/2 braiding do?
It crosses the conductors at right angles so induced interference arrives equally on both sides of the pair and cancels. Kimber uses it to address electromagnetic interference, radio interference and crosstalk together.
Will it fit an arm with captive leads?
No cable will. An arm wired straight through to fitted RCA leads has nothing to unplug, so changing the cable there means rewiring the arm itself.
