An Affordable Tower With Dolby Atmos Built In
The Klipsch Reference R-625FA is a 2-way floorstanding speaker with a built-in, up-firing Dolby Atmos elevation driver in the top of the cabinet — stereo sound toward the listener and a reflected overhead channel from the same tower, no separate add-on speaker required.
Klipsch rates the main channel's sensitivity at 96 dB into a nominal 8 ohms, and rates power handling at 100 watts continuous — enough headroom for a genuine home-theater receiver setup without straining.
The cabinet ships in Black textured wood-grain vinyl only, and sold each, so a full setup is two — order a pair for stereo, or add more for a larger Atmos layout.
Where the Built-In Elevation Driver Earns Its Keep
A Main Tower and an Atmos Speaker in One Cabinet
The main channel's 1-inch aluminum LTS tweeter, loaded into a 90° x 90° Tractrix horn, crosses over at 2,000 Hz to dual 6.5-inch spun-copper IMG woofers — Klipsch's lightweight, rigid cone material for low distortion at real output.
A separate 5.25-inch spun-copper IMG woofer, paired with the same LTS tweeter design in a sealed enclosure, fires upward from the top of the cabinet to bounce Dolby Atmos overhead effects off the ceiling.
The Numbers, and What They Ask of Your Amplifier
Klipsch quotes a main-channel frequency range of 38 Hz to 21 kHz within 3 dB. Sensitivity is 96 dB, nominal impedance is 8 ohms compatible, and Klipsch rates main-channel power handling at 100 watts continuous, 400 watts peak.
The elevation channel is rated separately at 75 watts continuous, 150 watts peak, and simply "conforms to Dolby Atmos specifications" for sensitivity and frequency response — Klipsch doesn't publish a number for that driver alone.
Who Is This Floorstanding Speaker Best For?
- You want Dolby Atmos without buying a separate elevation speaker — the up-firing driver is built into the same cabinet as your main tower
- You're building a home theater on a budget — a real Atmos-enabled tower at an entry price point
- Your amplifier is modest — 96 dB sensitivity means a home-theater receiver drives the main channel with ease
- You want one speaker per cabinet, priced and shipped that way — the R-625FA is sold each, so order two for a stereo pair, or more for a full Atmos layout
- You want real floorstanding bass without a separate subwoofer — the R-625FA reaches to 38 Hz within 3 dB on its own. For the deepest home-theater effects, add one of our subwoofers and let the towers do what they do best
How Does It Connect to Your System?
A single pair of gold-plated binding posts feeds the main channel — this model is not bi-wire capable, unlike Klipsch's Reference Premiere II towers. The Atmos elevation driver draws from the same amplifier channel that powers it, via your AV receiver's height-channel output.
Give the cabinet a few inches of clearance from the wall behind it for its rear-firing port to breathe, and keep the top of the cabinet clear so the up-firing driver has a clean path to the ceiling.
Two cables per tower, and you are listening — no separate elevation-speaker wiring to run.
Pairs Well With
What finishes the system around a pair of R-625FA towers:
- AV receivers — a Dolby Atmos-capable receiver is what unlocks the built-in elevation driver
- Speaker cables — single-wire runs, since this model has no bi-wire terminal
- subwoofers — add one for the deepest home-theater bass effects
- Speaker isolation feet — a firm footing on a wood or tile floor
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the price for one speaker or a pair?
One. The R-625FA is sold each, so order two for a stereo pair, or more for a larger Atmos layout.
What comes in the box?
The speaker with its magnetic grille and the owner's manual.
Do I need a separate elevation speaker for Dolby Atmos?
Not with this model — the R-625FA has an up-firing Atmos driver built into the top of the cabinet already.
Can I bi-wire the R-625FA?
Each cabinet has a single pair of binding posts; Klipsch does not offer a bi-wire terminal on this model.
What amplifier do I need?
Klipsch rates main-channel power handling at 100 watts continuous, 400 watts peak. At 96 dB sensitivity, most home-theater receivers drive it with ease.
What finishes are available?
Black textured wood-grain vinyl only.
