The Whole System, Minus the Speakers

The MODEL 60n is a class A/B integrated amplifier with a network streamer and DAC inside the same slim chassis. It makes 60 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 80 into 4, and weighs 12.7 kilograms.

Connections are generous for the size. Three line-level RCA inputs, a moving-magnet phono input, two optical, one coaxial, a USB-A port, HDMI ARC for the television, Ethernet and dual-band Wi-Fi.

Roon Ready, and Everything Else Too

HEOS covers Tidal, Amazon Music, Deezer, Pandora and internet radio. AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect and Bluetooth 5.4 are all built in, and the MODEL 60n is Roon Ready. Files reach 24-bit/192kHz PCM and DSD256.

On the back are two pairs of Marantz SPKT-1+ terminals, a preamplifier output and a mono subwoofer output. The headphone jack on the front is 3.5mm. Black or silver-gold, with the RC006PM remote included.

Marantz Put the Amplifier First and the Computer Second

The analog section carries the same HDAM discrete modules and toroidal transformer Marantz uses further up the range, rather than the switching supply a slim streaming amplifier could have got away with. The digital board sits alongside it, not in place of it.

Distortion is quoted at 0.02% and frequency response runs 5Hz to 100kHz within 3dB. The damping factor is 100 or better into 8 ohms. Bass and treble controls each swing 10dB, at 50Hz and 15kHz respectively.

The Phono Stage and the Power Bill

Marantz Musical Phono EQ takes moving magnet at 1.9mV into 47 kilohms and holds the RIAA curve within half a decibel. Line inputs want 190mV into 20 kilohms. Bluetooth reaches roughly 30 metres in line of sight.

The amplifier draws 220 watts in use, 2 watts in network standby and 0.3 watts in full standby. It measures 442 by 431 by 129mm, so it fits a normal shelf rather than demanding a rack.

Scoring it nine out of ten in AVForums in June 2025, Ed Selley judged that it "is good enough to take on the more dedicated amplifiers at the price while doing more than they do and doing more of it better."

Simon Lucas found in hi-fi+ in April 2026 that "it’s in the midrange that the Marantz is at its most adept and most impressive," over a soundstage he called "coherently organised and quite spacious."

Two Reservations Before You Buy

Selley withheld a perfect score for one reason: "HEOS is just a little too clunky and limited in the face of some competition," and he listed the small display as a second gripe.

How Does It Connect to Your System?

Wire it to the network by Ethernet if you can reach it, then finish setup in the HEOS app. Speakers go to either pair of terminals, and the television connects over a single HDMI cable to the ARC port.

A turntable goes to the phono input with its ground lead. A CD player, a games console and a soundbar-free television between them fill the optical, coaxial and line inputs without running out.

A subwoofer takes the mono output on the back.
