MartinLogan Discrete Cinema LCR9 - 9 Driver Low Profile LCR Speaker

The MartinLogan Discrete Cinema LCR9 is the flagship low-profile LCR speaker in the Motion Discrete Cinema Series, designed to visually and acoustically complement 85-inch class displays. Its nine-driver architecture combines a Gen2 Folded Motion Tweeter with four active 4-inch woven fiberglass drivers and four matching passive radiators inside a rigid sealed aluminum enclosure. The LCR9 can be mounted vertically or horizontally for left, center, right, or surround-channel use, making it a flexible solution for premium home theaters where conventional speaker cabinets would be too visually intrusive.

MartinLogan Discrete Cinema LCR9 — 9-Driver Low Profile LCR Speaker — Product Description

The Flagship, Scaled to an 85-Inch Screen

Most on-wall speakers come in one size and hope it works. MartinLogan built the Motion Discrete Cinema series the other way round, matching driver count to screen size so an 85-inch display gets a bigger speaker rather than the same one in a longer grille. The LCR9 tops that range.

It is a 2.5-way design with a nine-driver layout, the largest array in the LCR line, built around a Gen2 Folded Motion tweeter with a Folded Motion Waveguide and woven fiberglass woofers. Published response is 70 Hz to 25 kHz within 3 dB, sensitivity is 93 dB, and impedance is 4 ohms. Dispersion is 90 degrees horizontally and vertically.

Those response numbers are the same across all three LCR models, which tells you what the extra drivers are actually for. They are not there to reach lower. They are there for output, power handling and control in a larger room.

Nine Drivers Inside One Aluminum Extrusion

The cabinet is an extruded aluminum profile rather than MDF, an acoustic choice as much as a cosmetic one. Aluminum allows thinner walls, leaving more internal air for the woofers in a shallower cabinet, and it is rigid enough that the panel flex which colours a thin wooden box is designed out.

The tweeter is the detail worth knowing. Rather than shrinking a tweeter to fit a slim enclosure, MartinLogan fitted the same Gen2 Folded Motion unit used in its full-size Motion speakers, with a waveguide developed for this job. A Folded Motion diaphragm is pleated and moves air by squeezing it, so it can be shallow without giving up output.

The woofers use woven fiberglass cones, again shared with the full-size Motion range, so voicing matches across models. High stiffness relative to mass is how small drivers in a slim cabinet avoid sounding small.

Who Is This Speaker Best For?

  • 85-inch class displays — Proportioned to sit under or beside a screen that size and look deliberate.
  • Larger rooms — The extra drivers buy output and headroom, which is what a big room actually needs.
  • Installers and integrators — Wall bracket included, cable hidden in the chassis, terminals ready for pre-wiring.
  • Three-channel front stages — Buy three identical speakers and the voicing
