Bookshelf Size. Far Bigger Sound.
The MartinLogan Motion B10 is a small speaker that does not sound small. It stands about 12 inches tall and 7 inches wide. It fits on a shelf, a stand, or a desk. And it plays with real weight and reach.
A Tweeter Unlike the Rest
The tweeter is the star here. It is a Gen2 Obsidian Folded Motion design, and it works nothing like a normal dome. Instead of a small cone pushing back and forth, a thin sheet of pleated film squeezes air between its folds. The film is light and it barely has to move.
That matters because light things start and stop fast. Cymbals sound like metal. Voices keep their texture. And the highs stay smooth when you turn the volume up, instead of getting hard and tiring. This is the same idea MartinLogan uses in their big flat-panel speakers, shrunk down to fit a shelf.
Real Bass From a Small Box
Below the tweeter sits a 5.5-inch woven fiberglass cone. The weave is stiff but light, so the cone holds its shape as it moves. A floppy cone smears the sound. This one does not. Voices and instruments come through with body, and bass lines stay tight instead of turning into one dull thud.
A port on the back lets the cabinet breathe and helps the B10 reach down to 56Hz. That is low for a box this size. You get the weight of a kick drum and the low notes of a bass guitar without adding a subwoofer first.
Easy to Drive, Easy to Place
It is also easy to drive. At 92dB, 20 watts is plenty for most rooms, but it will take up to 200 watts if you have them. The sound spreads wide, 90 degrees across and 90 degrees up and down, so more than one seat gets the good version. The B10 comes in three finishes. Check the title above to see which one you are ordering.
Key Features
Gen2 Obsidian Folded Motion Tweeter — Pleated film moves air over 9.2 square inches. Fast, clean, and never harsh.
5.5" Woven Fiberglass Cone — Stiff and light, so it keeps its shape and stays clear under load.
Reaches Down to 56Hz — A rear port pulls real low end out of a small cabinet.
Cast Polymer Driver Basket — A rigid frame keeps the driver steady and quiet.
Non-Resonant Cabinet — The inside walls are set at odd angles so the box does not ring.
90° x 90° Dispersion — The sweet spot is wide, so more than one seat sounds right.
Easy to Drive — 92dB sensitivity, and it handles 20 to 200 watts.
5-Way Binding Posts — Use banana plugs, spades, pins, or bare wire.
Magnetic Grille — It snaps on and off with no holes in the front of the cabinet.
What to Pair It With
Almost any amp will run the B10 well. Twenty clean watts is enough for a small or medium room. More power gives you more headroom for loud peaks, and the speaker will take 200 watts without complaint.
Get the tweeter near ear height. A pair of 25-inch stands puts it right where it belongs, and MartinLogan makes the STAND25 for exactly this speaker. If you must use a shelf, leave a few inches behind the cabinet so the rear port can breathe.
Want more bass? Add a subwoofer and cross it over near 60 to 80Hz. In a home theater, the B10 also makes a strong rear or side channel next to larger Motion speakers up front.
Who It's For
Buy the B10 if you want real high-end sound and do not have room for towers. It suits apartments, offices, dens, and second systems. It is a fine desktop speaker too, as long as you can pull it a little off the wall.
It is a good match if you listen to voices and acoustic music and want to hear the small details. It is also a good match if you have owned soft dome speakers and always wished for more air and speed up top.
