The Monitor Audio SB-3 is made for large TVs. It is more than 51 inches wide. That looks right under a 60-inch screen or bigger.

Inside are three real speakers. The left and right each get one 4-inch driver and one gold dome tweeter. The center gets two 4-inch drivers and a tweeter of its own. Voices are the hardest part of movie sound, so the center gets the most help.

The bar is passive. Your receiver powers it. There is no built-in amp to wear out, and no software making guesses for you. Better gear down the road means better sound from this same bar.

The cabinet is just 3.5 inches deep. Passive bass units add weight down low without a big box. Set it on the feet in the box, or hang it with the BSB bracket, sold on its own. Add a subwoofer and cross it over near 80Hz.
