What is the M23 V2, and what does it do?

The NAD Masters M23 V2 is a stereo power amplifier. That means it does one job, and only one job: it takes a low-level audio signal from your preamplifier and amplifies it to drive speakers. It does not select inputs. It does not control volume. It does not stream. It is purpose-built for clean amplification, nothing else.

This is the V2 — the second generation of NAD's flagship Masters Series stereo power amplifier. The original M23 launched in 2022 and quickly earned a reputation as one of the cleanest-measuring Class D amps at its price. The V2 takes that platform forward with the latest Purifi Eigentakt modules and additional system-integration features.

The M23 V2 sits in NAD's Masters Series, the top tier of NAD's lineup. To complete a system, pair it with a preamplifier or streaming preamp — NAD's own M66 BluOS Streaming DAC Preamplifier is the natural match. The M23 V2 can also bridge with a second M23 V2 (or with the M33 V2) for 700-watt monoblock operation.

Eigentakt, Refined — The V2 Story

NAD describes the M23 V2 as a more advanced implementation of Purifi's amplifier technology — the second-generation Eigentakt modules. Eigentakt was the breakthrough Class D module that Bruno Putzeys (the engineer behind Hypex nCore) brought to Purifi Audio. The V2's Eigentakt modules further reduce distortion and improve linearity across the entire output range. Add intelligent 12V trigger sequencing and a three-position gain switch, and the V2 becomes easier to build into a serious system.

Why does it matter? How does it improve your listening?

A power amplifier's job is invisible: pass the signal cleanly, drive the speakers, get out of the way. The numbers on the M23 V2 show how seriously NAD takes that job. Continuous output is 200 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 380 watts into 4 ohms — conservatively rated, both channels driven, across the full 20 Hz – 20 kHz audio band.

THD (total harmonic distortion) measures below 0.00069% on the XLR balanced input — well below what any human ear can detect. Signal-to-noise ratio is over 127 dB at full rated output. These are reference-grade numbers, in the range typically claimed only by amplifiers costing several times more.

The damping factor of over 800 (referenced to 8 ohms across most of the audible range) is the part most listeners feel rather than read. Damping factor measures how tightly an amplifier controls a speaker's bass driver — higher numbers mean less overshoot and tighter, more defined bass. Pair the M23 V2 with a difficult speaker load and it stays composed.

For bigger rooms or more demanding speakers, the M23 V2 can be switched to mono bridge mode for 700 watts continuous into 8 ohms — over 1,000 W of dynamic peak power.

What's different about how it's built?

The output stage uses second-generation Purifi Eigentakt modules — the latest version of the Class D topology Bruno Putzeys developed at Purifi Audio. Eigentakt's distinguishing trait is load-invariance: the amplifier's frequency response stays flat regardless of what speaker it's driving. Most Class D amplifiers have small response variations into challenging loads; Eigentakt's mathematical modeling closes those gaps.

NAD manufactures the Eigentakt modules under license from Purifi, then pairs them with NAD's own switch-mode power supply, custom input stages, and multi-layer circuit boards. The combination delivers the load-invariant behavior of Eigentakt at the chassis level.

Auto-sensing inputs detect whether a signal is present on the balanced XLR or single-ended RCA jack and switch automatically. A three-position gain switch lets you match the M23 V2's input sensitivity to your preamp. The intelligent 12V trigger output adds a one-second delay from the 12V input — that delay prevents inrush surge spikes when you're sequencing multiple amplifiers in a high-end stack.

The chassis is all-alloy with rigid panels and magnetic iso-point feet — design that contributes to keeping internal resonances from coloring the sound and gives the M23 V2 the build feel of a Masters Series component.

How does it connect to your system?

This is a power amplifier only — you'll need a preamplifier to feed it a signal. NAD's own M66 BluOS Streaming DAC Preamplifier is the natural match. Any preamp with balanced XLR or single-ended RCA outputs will work.

Inputs: one stereo pair of balanced XLR plus one stereo pair of single-ended RCA. The M23 V2 auto-senses which input has a signal and switches automatically — no input selector to fiddle with.

Outputs: one stereo pair of speaker binding posts that accept bare wire, banana plugs, or spades. In bridged mode, the connection scheme changes to mono — one M23 V2 drives a single speaker as a 700-watt mono amplifier.

System integration: a three-position gain switch matches input sensitivity to your preamp. A 12V trigger input lets a preamp or source power the amp on and off automatically. A 12V trigger output (with a one-second delay) sequences a second amplifier or other components downstream.

Bridgeable for 700 W Mono

A front-panel mode switch reconfigures the M23 V2 as a 700-watt mono amplifier into 8 Ω. Run two M23 V2s in bridged mode for 700 W per channel, or pair an M23 V2 in bridged mode with the M33 V2 streaming amp for the same configuration.

Auto-Sensing Balanced and Single-Ended Inputs
