An Elliptical Diamond That Tracks at a Lighter Touch

The 10 uses an elliptical diamond with an 8/18 µm tip radius, and it does its work at a recommended 1.5 g rather than the 1.75 g the 3E and 5E ask for. Less downward force in the groove, same tracking ability.

Do You Need a New Stylus?

Three things tell you it is time:

•       Damage. A bent cantilever, a chipped or missing diamond, or debris you cannot brush away means replace it now — a damaged stylus can permanently damage your record grooves.

•       Hours of play. Ortofon rates its styli for up to 1,000 hours of play with proper care, and closer to 500 hours under DJ use with back-cuing or scratching. A worn diamond stops tracking cleanly long before it looks worn to the naked eye.

•       Age. After roughly five years the elastomer suspension — the small damping ring that holds the cantilever in place — dries out and stiffens. The stylus still plays, but it no longer tracks or sounds the way it did new. Time for a fresh one.

Fitment & Installation

The Stylus 10 is the recommended stylus for the Ortofon Super OM 10, OM 10, OMP 10, OMB 10, OMT 10, LM 10, Concorde 10, Concorde EC 10, Concorde STD, TM 10H, LMB 12, SMB 12, and LMA 12. It is not the right part for the 2M series, Concorde MkII, VNL, or Ortofon’s moving coil cartridges — those use their own styli or are not user-replaceable.

Installation takes about two minutes. With the turntable switched off, hold the cartridge body steady, grip the stylus assembly from both sides, and pull it straight off the front; then press the new one on until it seats. No tools, no alignment, no re-setting the tonearm. Just confirm your tracking force sits in the 1.25–1.75 g range, and allow up to 20 hours of playing time for the new suspension to settle in. If you would rather step up while you are in there, the Stylus 20, 30, and 40 all fit the same body the same way.
