Ortofon Stylus 20 Replacement Stylus for OM 20 Cartridges
What You Need to Know
Ortofon’s Own Part, and Your Cartridge Is Whole Again
The Stylus 20 is the genuine Ortofon replacement for the Super OM 20, OM 20, OMP 20, OMB 20, and their Concorde and LM siblings.
It is the same assembly your cartridge was built around, so fitting it does not approximate the sound you paid for — it restores it exactly.
A Nude Diamond Moves Faster Through the Groove
Where less expensive styli bond a small diamond tip to a metal shank, the 20 uses a nude elliptical diamond — one solid stone, no shank. Ortofon’s engineering explains why that matters: the added mass of a shank blunts a cartridge’s response to transients.
With an equivalent tip mass of just 0.4 mg, the 20 changes direction more willingly than a bonded tip can. You hear it as crisper leading edges on piano and percussion, and as air and space around voices that a bonded diamond tends to flatten.
Two More Steps Available Whenever You Want Them
Every OM body shares the same stylus mount, so yours also accepts the Stylus 30 and Stylus 40.
The Stylus 30 trades the elliptical shape for a nude Fine Line profile with an 8/40 µm radius, which sits in the groove differently and reads high-frequency detail more completely. The Stylus 40 goes further still. Neither asks anything of you but two minutes and a steady hand.
Do You Need a New Stylus?
Three things tell you it is time:
• Damage. A bent cantilever, a chipped or missing diamond, or debris you cannot brush away means replace it now — a damaged stylus can permanently damage your record grooves.
• Hours of play. Ortofon rates its styli for up to 1,000 hours of play with proper care, and closer to 500 hours under DJ use with back-cuing or scratching. A worn diamond stops tracking cleanly long before it looks worn to the naked eye.
• Age. After roughly five years the elastomer suspension — the small damping ring that holds the cantilever in place — dries out and stiffens. The stylus still plays, but it no longer tracks or sounds the way it did new. Time for a fresh one.
Fitment & Installation
The Stylus 20 is the recommended stylus for the Ortofon Super OM 20, OM 20, OMP 20, OMB 20, LM 20, LM 20H, Concorde 20, TM 20U, and TM 20H. It is not the right part for the 2M series, Concorde MkII, VNL, or Ortofon’s moving coil cartridges — those use their own styli or are not user-replaceable.
Installation takes about two minutes. With the turntable switched off, hold the cartridge body steady, grip the stylus assembly from both sides, and pull it straight off the front; then press the new one on until it seats. No tools, no alignment, no re-setting the tonearm. Just confirm your tracking force sits in the 1.25–1.75 g range, and allow up to 20 hours of playing time for the new suspension to settle in. If you would rather step up while you are in there, the Stylus 30 and 40 fit the same body the same way.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will this fit my cartridge?
The Stylus 20 is the recommended replacement for the Super OM 20, OM 20, OMP 20, OMB 20, LM 20, LM 20H, Concorde 20, TM 20U, and TM 20H. It will not fit the 2M series, Concorde MkII, VNL, or Ortofon’s moving coil cartridges.
How long will it last?
Ortofon rates its styli for up to 1,000 hours of play with proper care — roughly 500 hours if you are back-cuing or scratching. And after about five years the elastomer suspension dries out and stiffens, so age matters as much as hours.
Can I upgrade to a better stylus?
Yes. The Stylus 30 brings a nude Fine Line diamond with an 8/40 µm radius, which sits deeper in the groove and resolves more high-frequency detail than any elliptical profile can. The Stylus 40 tops Ortofon’s OM range. Both drop onto your existing body in about two minutes, with no alignment or tracking-force changes beyond a quick check.
