The Larger Pangea Foot for Amps and Receivers of 40 to 80 Pounds

Pangea Audio Mega Feet are sold singly and in a pack of four. Each foot is a molded pad of Sorbothane, shaped by Pangea's designers with Sorbothane's own engineers. A set of four is made for a power amp, receiver, integrated amp or power conditioner of 40 to 80 pounds. A set of three is ideal for gear in the 25 to 60lb range. See graphs. 

A component's stock feet pass shelf vibration into its chassis. Sorbothane is a visco-elastic polymer: a solid that behaves like a liquid toward vibration and turns the motion into a little heat. The component rides on the Sorbothane instead of the shelf.

Fit, Load and Materials

A set of four Mega Feet is rated for 40 to 80 pounds, or 10 to 20 pounds a foot. Under too little load the pad barely compresses; over the maximum it stops absorbing. Pangea says to add feet or step up a size once the weight passes the top of the range.

Each foot is molded with a 'P' on one face, and Pangea recommends setting the foot with the 'P' facing down. Pangea does not publish the foot's height, so allow a little extra clearance under a component on a tight rack shelf.

Mega is the heavier of the two Pangea feet. The Pico Feet carry 16 to 40 pounds a set and are made for CD players, streamers, DACs and preamps. Both use the same Sorbothane; the Pico is simply the smaller foot.

Who Are the Mega Feet Best For?

• You own a power amp, receiver, integrated amp or power conditioner of 40 to 80 pounds — four Mega Feet carry it inside the Sorbothane's working range

How Do You Set Them Up?

Weigh the component or check its manual, and confirm that 40 to 80 pounds covers it. Set four feet on the shelf where the corners of the chassis will land, 'P' side down. Lower the component so the chassis rests on the feet and the stock feet hang clear of the shelf. Check that it sits level.

How many do I need?

Three or four per component is the usual count, which is why you can buy them individually or in sets of four.

Which Pangea foot do I need?

Go by the weight of the component. The Pico Feet are rated 16 to 40 pounds a set of three or four Mega Feet covers the range of 25 to 80. A component right at 40 pounds can use either; pick the Mega if it will sit near the limit for long.

Do the feet go under the stock feet or under the chassis?

Honestly it doesn't matter. Some customers install them with 'P' side down, so the component's own feet hang clear. Sorbothane needs to be compressed by the component's weight to work, and the chassis gives it a flat surface to grip.

What if my component is heavier than the range?

Add feet. Pangea says the Sorbothane stops absorbing once the weight passes the top of the range, so spread the load over five or six feet, or use two packs of four under a very heavy amp.
