Premier Is Silver-Plated Copper Built to Cat 7 Shielding Specs
An Ethernet cable carries data in packets, and built-in error correction means a damaged bit gets resent rather than heard as distortion. What still varies between cables is shielding against outside noise and how reliably the connection holds up over a longer run.
Pangea Audio's Premier Ethernet cable is designed by Jay Victor around 26 AWG copper conductors coated with silver, individually shielded per signal pair to Cat 7 spec and triple-shielded overall for resistance to EMI and RFI.
26 AWG Silver-Plated Copper Conductors
Jay Victor says silver plating is crucial to digital cable performance, and uses it in all his digital audio designs, including Premier's 26 AWG conductors. Premier uses low-loss PE insulation rather than the PVC used in typical cables, which Pangea says further reduces high-frequency signal distortion.
Individually Shielded Pairs, Triple Overall Shielding
Each signal pair carries its own shield, which Pangea notes is required by Cat 7 spec, and the whole cable is triple shielded on top of that for maximum resistance to EMI and RFI. Pangea says this construction meets or exceeds currently published Cat 7 and Cat 8 bandwidth specs.
The Connectors, Explained
Premier ends in a standard RJ45 plug on each end, built to the individually shielded, Cat 7 spec pair construction described above.
Who Is This Ethernet Cable Best For?
- You want an affordable step up from a stock Ethernet cable — Pangea positions Premier as the entry point to its Ethernet line, at its own price point
- You value Cat 7 spec individual-pair shielding plus a triple overall shield — that construction is Premier's defining feature, not an upsell reserved for the tier above it
- You want silver-plated conductors on the theory that plating matters for digital cable performance — that is designer Jay Victor's own stated reasoning for using it across Pangea's digital cables
- You are feeding a reference source and want Pangea's step-up copper source instead — Pangea Premier SE moves to Cardas Grade One Copper as the conductor base
- You have no wired networking at all, only Wi-Fi — a streamer with built-in Wi-Fi is the better starting point; an Ethernet cable only helps once you have a router or switch to plug into
How Does It Connect to Your System?
Plug one end into an RJ45 port on your router, switch or network device, and the other end into the RJ45 port on your streamer, music server or networked DAC. Either end can go to either device.
Then power up the system as usual. Other and longer lengths available. Call for prices.
Pairs Well With
An Ethernet cable is one link between your network and a source component. It usually joins these categories.
- Music Streamers — the most common source device an Ethernet cable feeds
- Digital-to-Analog Converters — many network-enabled DACs take an Ethernet input directly
- Home Theater Receivers — networked receivers stream over the same wired connection
- Power Conditioners — clean power for the same networked gear this cable feeds
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this cable really "Cat 7"?
Cat 7 and Cat 8 were never adopted as official ANSI or TIA standards, so the label describes a performance target, not a certified rating. The maker is upfront about this and says the cable's construction meets or exceeds the published Cat 7 and Cat 8 bandwidth specs regardless of the label's official status.
Can a bad Ethernet cable damage my music files?
This is true of any Ethernet cable: network data travels in packets with built-in error correction, so a flawed connection causes a retransmission, not corrupted audio. What a premium cable changes is shielding against outside noise and connection reliability, not data integrity.
Do I need this if I already use Wi-Fi?
A wired connection is generally more stable than Wi-Fi, with no dropouts from interference or distance. If your source component has an Ethernet port, running a cable to it removes Wi-Fi from the equation entirely, whether or not you upgrade beyond the cable that came in the box.
Is there a step up?
Pangea Premier SE is the next rung, and the top of the Pangea Ethernet line. It moves the conductor base to Cardas Grade One Copper before silver-plating it.

- 26awg Silver Plated Copper Conductors
- Low Loss PE Insulation
- Individual Shielding on Each Signal Pair (required by Cat 7 Spec.)
- Meets or Exceeds Currently Published Bandwidth Specs for Cat 7 & Cat 8
- Triple Shielded for Maximum Resistance to EMI & RFI
Note: Cat 7 & Cat 8 standards have never been approved by ANSI and are thus not an officially approved standard. Connectors specifically for Cat 7 or Cat 8 have also never been approved. Cat 7 & Cat 8 require that all equipment and hardware in the system support a contiguous ground, or there will be no performance benefit to Cat 7/Cat 8 over previous standards such as Cat 6.
