The Premier SE Puts Air Around the Copper

Pangea Audio's Premier SE keeps Cardas Grade One copper and changes what surrounds it. Jay Victor designed it with PE air-tube insulation. Both the signal and the return conductors get it. Pangea says that construction had been limited to far costlier cables until manufacturing improved.

Why Air Tubes Are Hard to Make

An air tube is PE extruded as a hollow sleeve, so the conductor sits mostly in air rather than plastic. The tube has to be processed slowly or it collapses during manufacture. Air stores very little charge. That is why cable designers chase it, and why Pangea took on the slower process.

Three Shields, Then a Plug with Almost No Metal

Three layers of shielding wrap the conductors. They are a silver-plated copper braid, an aluminum and Mylar foil, and a carbon-filled PE layer. Pangea added the carbon-filled layer as one more barrier to noise. It does not stiffen the cable. A thermoplastic rubber jacket covers everything.

Spring Contacts and a Hollow Pin

The Prime 750 RCA plug carries as little metal as possible. The center pin is hollow tellurium copper, gold plated straight onto the metal. The ground contacts are beryllium copper springs, also gold plated. A polymer insulator, not a metal ring, holds the plug together. The shell is non-magnetic brass in black chrome.

How Does It Connect to Your System?

Run the Premier SE from a line-level output, a DAC, streamer, CD player or phono stage, to a line-level input on your amplifier or preamp. Keep left to left and right to right. Push each plug straight on until the spring contacts take hold. The black chrome shell gives you a firm grip.
